barking in the pen
Does any body have any good ideas on how to break a young dog from barking constantly in the pen and dog box? If you do I would really love to know. Thanks Rob
duct tape works great
He'd probably blow up
get a bark collar or put a shocker on it and sleep with the remote. Just make sure you use or make a dummy collar so the dog doesn't figure when it has the collar on and when it doesn't.

he wont blow up put it on his mouth for 2 min when u here him bark then tear it off and do that a few times then put it on a nail where he can see it he wont wanna bark no more i have used this it works great
Get a bb gun and shoot at the pen and if he is smart he will quit: and in the dog box stop get a green switch and pull him out and give it to him hard every time he barks after awhile either he will stop or you will.
Linda
I know a guy that tried that and his friend's dog now has a BB in her heart

the dog is collar smart? the one we r huntin now barks constantly unless she has the collar on but she knows when the battery is goin dead and will bark every breath,,,tried the water hose ...tried hollerin.....tried everythin i have seen here to no avail...she knows the dif between dummy collar n shock collar.some dogs r just stubborn or dumb one lol......
one word barl collar u can get a good one for 100 bucks all my dogs have them for first 2 weeks here then they get the idea no bark in pen but in woods ok
Re: what do u do if
quote:gal, you may have used the dummy collar to long......... prolly have to start from scratch......... put the dummy collar on and leave it for three days. then replace it with the no bark collar, shouldn't take long...... i just finished up with the most stubborn one i ever owned..... he is the reason i bought the no bark....

The guy I bought my pup from was telling us that he lets his dogs bark in the kennels because there is a slim chance that by punishing them for barking they will become silent track/ tree dogs. I know it can get annoying, we have 7 dogs here right now, 5 of which are hunting dogs and they can bark alot between all of them but we just let them bark. I don't mind the sound of them, I actually like to hear them for the most part. They don't bother anyone because we live in the middle of nowhere so they can't keep the neighbors awake or anything and it doesn't make us loose any sleep.

i was afraid of the same thing....... but it didn't effect mine.... i guess he knew the difference betwen barking on track and yaking in the pen...... he never has barked in the box.....

a bb in the heart is a bad aim, i been known to put up a piece of metal that gets there attention or to hit them in the butt, but i dont pump it up much just enought to get it there

weve only had her a week.....shes 18 months old...huntin her for a guy for awhile. Hubbys gonna buy her eventually i think. not sure what was used on her but the way she acts here hses collar smart lol i agree with u all teach them not to bark at a young age....we live where its not ok for them to bark all the time. huses side by side..and a bitchy neighbor that has called the lanlord many times b/c of the dogs...had to get rid of 2 already b/c of her...but anywho gonna work on the collar some more. shes gettin better...might just b b/c shes in a new place....
I have used a glass of water on every hound on the place. They hate it. Get you a cold cup of water and throw it right in there face, in the meanest voice you have tell them to shut up. It does not take long for them to get the point.
Give it a try it has worked for me.

will do that if they are tied somewhere where they can see activity they want to participate in. (Like club events!)
I have found that draping an old sheet over the crate stops barking (don't do this outdoors on a hot summer day). We call it a "parrot cloth" because it settles the dog down the same way a cloth settles a parrot in a cage. They go right to sleep.
If you can set up your pens or tie-outs someplace where they don't see and hear a lot of stuff going on, they won't bark for attention. When I am working outside the yard fence and my hound starts carrying on, I keep a water pistol with me to squirt him. Super soakers have a fairly long range. : )
