Finley River Dogs ?

A friend of mine is looking for a heavy Finley River and or Spring Creek bred male. He has a good old female that he wants a pup out of and want's to stay with that blood. It's hard to find that line where we live so hopefully someone could help him out. It doesn't matter if he is titled he just wants to breed to a coondog.
Thanks
Chris Halverson

We have one bred like that for him to breed to. Gr Nite Ch 'PR' Van's Hard Knockin' Stylish Abe is the dog for you to breed to. He has Finley River Chief 6 times in 7 generations along with hevay Johnson's Banjo stock. He is also a direct son of Gr Nite Ch Hard Knockin' Stylish Hayes. He is 10 year old, didn't start hunting him in hunts until he was about 8 1/2 years old and was finished out to Gr Nite Ch at the age of 9 1/2 years old. He quailified for the UKC 2004 World hunt and also won his cast this year up at Autumn Oaks at the age of 10 years old against Gr Nite Ch 'PR' Five Toe Tommy Joe(2003 Autumn Oaks winner), Gr Nite Ch 'PR' Brett's Hard Treeing Jesse, and also a Gr Nite Ch dog off of Nitro. Abe finished the cast up with 500+ and was ahead of each dog in the cast by atleast one coon. He was never treed with another dog the whole night, and we never walked to a tree that he didn't have the meat in. If you would like to come down and hunt with him at the age of 10 years old, give us a call at 502-935-6994. Bring your lights, boots, and your best hound and we will turn him loose anyway you want to see him go.

A LOT MORE TRACK AND A LITTLE LESS TREE. HE CAN'T TREE A COON THAT HE CAN'T SMELL

BE REMEMBERED FOR THE HOUND YOU WERE PACKING, NOT THE HANDLING YOU DID.

Not sure where your from but I've got a friend that is a die-hard Finley River man. He has an old male dog (NTCH PKC CH) that is as Finley River bred as you can get. BIG dog, tight on the ground, one of the loudest, hardest treedogs I have ever hunted with. Call Mark @ 603-286-3112

I hunted with some guys in Okla.

with Finley River/Spring Creek dogs. The dogs were excellent in all respects - coondogs with good looks, temperament AND hunting ability.

Hi Chris,
Richard C. Allen still has the Nite Leader dog in Mississippi and he has a nice young dog called Risky that is heavy Finley River. Mr. Allen is super nice fellow and he knows about Finley River dogs, not just the name. Of course, you know about the Boomer dog and Tilseth's from Wisconsin purchased Jackson's Champ from John Monroe. I know Monte Jackson that raised Champ if you are interested to know more about him. Gary Brown from Illinois has kept Finley River/Lone Pine dogs, also. Richard Phillips from Illinois also has kept Finley River/Rock breeding.

The Jake dog that Dave Freeman mentioned was sold to Stan Carson and I am pretty sure they lost him. He was out of Allen's Nite Leader. I can probably track down some phone numbers if you need to contact any of these folks. Good luck!

Does Lonnie Mears do any hunting these days, or does he just show dogs?

What's he got?

I will say that the best Walker dog I ever hunted with was Gr. Nt. Ch. Holman's Spike. He won 10th in the UKC world hunt in 1989.

He was a grandson of Finley River Dan on one side, and Crowding Billy on the other.

Super hound, but trashy if you didn't keep him hunted down. And keeping him hunted down was almost a full time job.

Last I knew, Lonnie had Dual Gr. Finley River Pete at stud. He is a littermate to the Boomer dog that Chris has bred to before. Lonnie was planning to breed his GrCh Kiss female to Ricky Allen's Risky dog the last I heard. Lonnie has had some health issues the last few years and he also lost a daughter a few years ago which took some of the hunt out of him. I think he mostly judges/shows dogs these days. He is one of the few that has kept his same Finley River line for a long time. I respect him for that.
