I don't live in Ohio now, but growing up there my 4-H advisor raised Huskies and had to obtain a kennel license. Consult a local Kennel Club, I know they will probably be AKC Show Dog oriented, but they will have the answer to your license question since they raise dogs.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

nope they never told me that when I went and bought mine

This letter is not issued by the dog warden. It comes straight from THE OHIO DEPT. OF TAXATION. They want your money.

Nope, we didn't get that. The only one we got said that they had raised the price, its now $60 for a kennel license.

I just wonder?

If they realize that making me buy a kennel license and Vendors license make my a kennel a business!!!! Guess I'll get to deduct all my travel expenses, dog food, Vet and medical expenses and such from my taxes next year. When I get every thing back I pay in in taxes next year it will sink in!

Ohio kennel licenses

Hey Robert.... We have the same letter lying on our couch. Trenten went to buy our kennel licenses and they told him that we had to have a vendor's licenses. Why can't we use our farm tax exemption??? They are part of the farm. Anyways... I think that Darke County wants us to buy each one a separate dog licenses and that would be extremly expensive.

kennel license

My dog warden told me the same thing. She said the state requested a list people that purchased kennel tags last year and they will have to purchase a vendors license also if they wanted to keep it along with charging sales tax and sending it in. She also said that the state would probably be kocking on doors to check this out (state short on money promted this). They want their money any way they can get it.Warden gave me a copy of the same letter. I guess kennel license is for resale purpose only, dont seem quite right to me. I have had kennel tags for years but switched this year.80.00 kennel license and 40.00 vendors license was cheaper with 6 dogs to go individually.

WOW !

here in lenawee(anyway) county , michigan the kennel license fee is $125.00 for up to 10 dogs then $2.00 per dog there after
i sure hope nobody from the dog warden dept see this or we will be in for it BIG TIME !!!

the funny thing is the state of michigan kennel license fee is only $10.00 our county set the fee at $125.00 for there pockets with no input from the people that pay for it, i called the gov she said it's a local issue and i had to deal with it at that leavel i asked how do i do that when they would not talk with us kennel owners she said GOOD LUCK LOL...LOL...

I haven't recieved any letter yet on mine. I had pup's on the ground last year. Right now I just have my male dog and my daughter has her Jack Russell. So, if I don't have the licences this year does that mean we still have to pay? Our dog warden is lucky to come out when hes called...

Posted by Cody Carroll on 02-02-2009 11:12 PM:

man im glad we dont have that. but our county will fine you if your dog barks in the kennel

I was told the same thing when I got mine so I made a few phone calls. If you have pups/dogs and sell them then yes they are trying to make you buy a vendors lic. and send in a tax statment every month rather you make a sale or not. If you don't make a sale and don't still send in a statment you will be find $50 and so on. They tried telling me that if you don't breed you can't get a kennel lic, you have to buy a tag for each dog. At $14 a pop here in my county. So I pulled up the Oh revs. Code and that is not how it reads. Also the way it reads is that a dog is not Tax able. I went to my county commisioners and I don't have a problem now. The State of OH is pushing this but you have to no your rights. I kept a paper trail of all my spendings this yr. on just hunting/dog supplies and it was just short of $4,000. I only had 3 dogs last yr, and didn't hunt much.

Guernsey county made you also get a vendors licensce as did Coshocton county if you bought a kennel licencse I was told that all the counties in Ohio are suppose to be doing this and that some arent and could get in trouble .
the auditors office in Cambridge called several different countys to see who was doing it and who wasnt wouldnt be suprised if the ones who arent dont get in trouble since this is ran by the Ohio Irs tax division
