? on Lipper's Hardwood Gun
Anybody have a picture and his pedigree? What type of dog was he,track style, tree syle?
JOHN
GUN WAS A VERY GOOD LOOKIN DOG .........REX SIMS COULD FIND YOU HIS PICTURE AND PEDIGREE........BRED GOOD THE BEST I CAN REMEMBER......NOT MUCH HELP....I REMEMBER MAC OWNED HIM FOR A LITTLE WHILE.........
John; I was always told that he was a bawl mouth tree dog and he threw some bawl mouth tree dogs as well. I had a female out of him and that's the way she was. She was easy to start and had loud mouth. I never hunted with him, myself, so can't tell you for sure. Best of luck; Charlie Radtke
Hardwood Gun was out of Lipper and Gr. Nite Ch. Wells' Oklahoma Queen. He had a good Bawl mouth on track with a short Bawl to chop on the tree. He was a good looking dog. I have hunted with him several times. I do think that he was a better reproducer than he was a coon dog. He never was very impressive in the woods the times that I hunted with him. I do not want to sound negative towards the dog, but if you want the truth..........then here it is, and know that I have hunted with him possibly more than anyone. Alan Kalal

EVERYTHING happens for a reason.
Thanks this has been very helpful oh Gun is in Cornell's bottom side of pedigree.Tardawg I had heard that before that he was a better reproducer than flashy coondog.I sure was glad to see that Spring Creek Rock too.I was always a fan of dogs out of him in the early eighties.Cornell tree's like ole Lipper crouching down real low on the tree.I didn't even realize where that style came from and till Ronnie Smith seen him tree.Genetics are a funy thing how they come out and show thereselves!!
My two females go back to Gun. Could've been great except I got them when I was still in college so they're just now getting the time in the woods they needed a long time ago. Still great tree dogs, the one female is able to wind them really well. Like they almost have too good of noses for their own good.

If I'm not mistaken Alan had something to do with this cross. Or maybe he was just a delivery man. I was sure it was him that I got Gun and a littermate female from at Autumn Oaks as little pups for Shane Maxey. Anyway I hunted with Gun when he treed his first coon, hunted him in some Nite Ch casts and just coonhunted him until Shane sold him to Elden Grizzle as a 2 yr. old
And I would agree with Alans description he had a good mouth, could tree a coon, beautiful dog, but could stand on his head and wallow a track with the best off them. Here's a picture of me and Gun and a couple other hounds after a hunt a long time ago. He was just around a yr. old then.

Hardwood Gun, Lippers Toby, Bandit, Jan. 1990,
Jeff M.
Believe it or not I still have that light( 1985 Sunburst box) and that wooden Timothy Ball Squaller and both (now retired) still work perfectly!
We had a nice dual grand male out of Gun.

Jeff M......you are 100% right, I was not the delivery man, I was the person that made the cross between Lipper and Oklahoma Queen when I owned her. Shane did buy two of the pups, Gun was nothing flashy at all, but I have seen better young dogs out of him then I have seen Gun himself do in the woods. Again, I am not trying to be on the negative side, heck like I said I was the breeder, just answering Mr. Horner's question. Jeff, I am glad you have seen the same out of him that I have, I knew it could not of been all bad nights, lol......Alan Kalal
we had a littermate sister to gun. i made her a ntch . but she was about as comon as she could be. she rased a nice bunch of pups off kicker. one made grnt

WHAT EVER HAPPEN TO SHANE MAXEY............
Smokin'
Shane got on at the local GM plant sold his last dog Outlaw Billy the Kid (redbone) to a man in missouri and hasn't set foot in the woods ever since probably 10 plus years now. I stop by and see him about once a year. Always says he's gonna bring his son and go huntin' but I never get the call. He was the best pup trainer I've ever seen. Besides some no-name local talent he also raised from pups and finished out Hardwood Gun, Wild Thunder ( Wild Clyde's daddy) Outlaw Timber Girl, Outlaw Billy the Kid in about a 6 year span. And also handled and studded many others, Logans Wild Quick, Wessels Wild Casey, Keys Outlaw Jessie to name a few.
Hey Jeff, Im still around. Wouldn't you know that I find this site and one of the first things I see on here is you braggin on me...lol

Hey Mike, glad to see that old squaller is still working for you. I haven't had a dog or been to the woods since a had to sell Billy the Kid and Timber girl. My old hunting buddy and training partner Jeff Minniear got to talking about old times and now I'm starting to get the itch again...so who knows, but I might see you around in the future. I perfected a couple new squaller designs right before I quit hunting, but they never went into production. Maybe I will have to dig out some of those prototypes and crank a few out! If I do I'll make sure you get one of the first ones. With squallers around the necks of guys like you....who needs to advertize! I still got some semen from Billy that I had collected when he was almost 2 yrs old so you may just see me leading BTK-2 someday if I can find the right female and can get a good pup from the cross. Take it easy Mike, and keep on winning with those red dogs!....Shane Maxey
