Man I am nervous with a capital N!
Our local club is hosting a UKC hunt tonite, since my wife just had a baby I could not go....but my son (14) has been wanting to go so he just rode down with my dog and a local guy to the hunt, it will be his second hunt and first without me there. I'm gonna pick him up late tonite.
I sure hope he has fun....and that the hunt goes ok....and that he does not lose my tracking system.....or my dog....and he draws good people....and that he speaks up loud enough for the judge to hear him....and that he has enough spare cash....and that he has fun.....ok that could go on all night. :-)
I'm sure he will have fun! Most of my nervousness is more because i realize he's growing up.

We'll be looking forward to hearing about his hunt!

I know the feeling. I've got 3 kids. 12. 15. and 18 and it just seems strange to let them go it alone sometimes. I think times have changed or I'm different than my Dad because when I was 16 Dad furnished the truck, gas, and entry fees and I went to hunts all over Southeastern Ohio and West Virginia. When I was 17 he paid my entry to the World Hunt in Paducah, Ky and gave me some money and sent me on my merry way. I wouldn't think about doing that with my kids. Good luck to your son and to you.
chris
he can only do what his master taught him.and i hope he wins
Thanks for the kind words....
I just got a call from a friend at the club; Brandon drew a 3 dog cast, the other two guys are real good folks who are also members of this board - Terry Adams and Sean Hawley - so now I am not as nervous, both those guys are "good people" as my folks used to say.
Still nervous though.....I guess it's the father in me?

That would be something would'nt it Jamie? Him winning the whole thing that is....not much chance of me hunting an English dog.
Yes Michael I agree, Terry is good folks and so is Sean, I was very relieved to hear who drew. This will be a good and fair learning experience for him...I wish my first cast had been with good folks like the two he drew tonite.

He's Home
They are back safe and sound...He seems to have enjoyed his cast and was in it til the end. The cast winner had +50 and he ended with an even 0. The final tree got them all out of the hole and had 2 coons in it which is always fun to see.
His cast members; Terry and Sean were real nice to him and so was his guide and ride Justin Price.

Brandon did a fine job Chris. Terry's dog and Chance sounded a lot alike so he didn't have an easy time. He should of won the cast, Chance treed those last coons but he waited a little too long to tree. You have done a good job with him. Sorry about that other thing, he is embarrassed and I will take care of it.
Chris, you just got a taste of Fatherhood at its best last night.....LOL I bet you 10 times more nervous than your son was.

Now that he had a good time and was close to winning hios cast you won't feel so bad when working overtime to pay for the entry's anmd gas and food and new like and second tracking system for him and another dog. LOL
Now, Now, Chris
I can understand you being nervous last night, but after you found out your boy had drawn me and Sean, your troubles should have been over. Well maybe not all your troubles were over, I mean you did send a 14 year old to do a mans job, and even worst with a Redbone.
LOL
You've got a great, well mannered young man there. But next time I won't jump out to a 225+ lead, and give it away like I did (aleast I hope not / HANDLER ERROR)
"Man that dog sounded like mine."
p.s.
I treat 'em all fair, men, women, children........................... maybe that's why I loose alot, but I have fun doing it.

Thanks again guys!
I plan to let him handle her alot more, she lacks a first place win to finish out and I have about given up on that so from now on I will let him handle her and learn the ropes and prepare for the youth hunt with her. Who knows Brandon may end up getting that first?
Again Big Thanks!
