Car-ports!!
Has anyone used those new metal car-ports for a design on a dog kennel, their sorta like little metal buildings you can stick just about anywhere.

I had thought about that , it sure
would make for a nice one, all though alittle pricey.

Is this what you're thinking about?

I had a 25' x 25' concrete pad poured,4 runs that are 25' x 6' long, the carport cover is 28' x 28' and is placed so that half of the kennel runs are covered and the other half is open.

That looks like a pretty good set-up Sam. About as good as any I have seen.Take care
Thats what I was talking about, in just a little smaller version but that is nice Samhain, does it work good for you? Have you had any trouble with it?

I haven't encountered any problems so far,we hardly get snow and ice here, but i had an extra support on the top frame just to make sure because of the width. The good thing about these tops is that you can get the top cover now and add the sides or backs later if you decide to.
Does the metal make much heat build up in it during your hot summer months?I reckon with both ends being open that you'd get plenty of air flow thru it.
I've thought a couple times about doing something like that too.
Looks nice.

It seems to be a little cooler in the shade under the top in the summer,i went with the white color because alot of people say they are cooler than dark colors when the sun hits it (???).I left the back open and added gravel on the ground, when i have extra dogs,i just set up a couple of those 10' x 10' kennels. The sun comes in on the 10' x 10' kennels but i usually just put a tarp over them for extra protection.
If you want to save some money and are willing to do a little work , you can build your own.
I went and got used galvinized ( spelling ? ) pipe from a well driller for free. (They can't use it again and usually have to pay someone to haul it away.) Then drilled holes in it , and fence fittings , and bolted them together. I used Pole Barn siding for the roof. I've got about $300.00 into mine. I keep my boat and some other stuff under it , but you could use it for different things ( kennels , pic-nic tables , etc. )
I can post pics if anyone is interested.

sure, always like to see other folks set up

Here's a picture of mine.
Not quite a fancy , but it works. The second one will look better.

Another picture is coming.

This pic is how I put a bolt through the fence fittings and pipes. Just to make sure they stayed together. ( safety first ! )

one more picture yet.

The 2x4's are bolted to the pipes also. And then the steel siding is screwed to the 2x4's.

Not as pretty as the store bought ones , but a heck of alot cheaper. You could make them prettier but this was my first one.
Hope you learn from my mistakes. LOL
Hope this helped someone.

I used one, best thing I ever used.. Don't know how to post pics on here but send me a number and I can send some pics that way...
I have a 18x20 as a cover over some of my kennels. it works well. it is open on all sides, it does get cold and hot, but due to where my shade is and lack there of in the summer that adds to the heat. I have fans on all of the pens and 2 in the top that blow out one end. it provides a decent draft. they will still get warm in the summer but w/ 100+ temps not much you can do except provide some shade and fresh water daily. I did build a new one last year, costs me almost as much as one of those. next time, I'll get another carport instead. Ive had that one for about 5 years w/o any issues. I got the white as well. I did add a cover extension on one side to add another pen so that it was covered.
