Not sure what's going on
When my hound is in the pen his stool is soild.. when I hunt him an he will get treed after we leave the tree 9 times out of 10 he will drop one that's loose..
Anybody know why ? Do I need to switch his feed up ? Any help would greatly help, thanks in advance !
Nervousness I think. Do you feed before hunting?

Just the excitement. Not really that uncommon, I've seen it a lot. If he's keeping weight on, and doing well on the feed besides that, I wouldn't worry about it. Make sure he's not wormy.
I feed him around 4pm everyday should I switch it an feed in the morning ?

He keeps good weight.. he has been tested for heartworms an did not have them and he is heartworm prevention.
You could try splitting his feed up, giving him half in the morning, and half in the evening. My dogs seem to do better that way, less mess in the kennel, and easier to keep weight on them when I'm hunting them hard. It doesn't run through them as bad that way.
I always feed after I get back from huntin not before .I think this will help

Normal
That is a normal response all dogs I have had over the years would do that during the hunt after an hour or so of heavy activity it is the bodies way of ridding waste and also from the activity. It will be loose as you described.
I would suggest not feeding 6 to 8 hrs before a hunt. I feed my dogs after the hunt and if you can split it up that is great but most people cant. If I know Im gonna hunt that nite I will feed a little at lunch time then rest after the hunt when I get home. I have been to hunts where guys feed dogs just prior to hunting the poor dog is sucking water all night and acting low energy.Have you ever tried to play football or baseball at a picnic right after all those burgers?Lol! I would say the four oclock feeding is too much too close to hunt time. Try after the hunt see how it works out for you.

i see the samething with my dogs, kinda solid in the kennel but runny in the woods. what i feed is 24% protein and 18% fat
would feeding lower fat make it stiffer

yep you are right, i wasnt thinking of it in terms of cattle.lol
Well then feed him so old dry grass and see if the helps.
Sorry couldn't help my self.
It doesn't matter what you feed him or when he is going to do this. My gyp does it and has all her life. She will have a normal stool before you cut her and after she makes the first tree it will be loose and full of blood. I have seen several dogs over the years like that.

It may be normal but there is a way around it. Especially if you comp hunt. The last thing your dog needs to be doing is stopping to take a dump when the rest of the cast is grabbing strike and tree points. The timing of when you feed, how much you feed, and making sure your dog empties right before hunting. He may squeeze a turd out here and there until you get it dialed in but you'll eventually find out when you are feeding enough vs. feeding too much and when he is empty and when he isn't. If you feed within 16-18 hours before hunting, you'll be stuck with sir poop-a lot. The activity just works the bowels that much harder and speeds the process. Working on a near empty system is key.

i might be exercise induced food allergy. many long distance runners have no sign of food allergies until they run long distances. it aggrevates the condition.

Thanks for the relpys guys.. I feed him after I hunt only if he trees a coon on the outside an I see it if not he will wait. I'm going to switch his feeding time to the early am an see if there is a difference.
