Dc-40

Had to return my Dc-40 to garmin. this is two now in two years. I have two DC-30's and they are both over 2 years old and very dependable. Do the 40's normally give more trouble? Just wondering what others think.

Don't know if I'll ever get the chance to find out how dependable the 40's are. Probably go right from the 30's to the new alpha system. You coming down to Bourbon this weekend Dave?

The first one had range problems. They did send me a new one at no charge and this one just stopped working after I put it on the dog. Luckily it was my medium hunting female and not my go yonder male.

The 40's that I have been around have been spotty to say the least. Some nights they work like a champ and the next they are absolute junk. At least with the 30's, when they are broke, they are good and broke and just send them in. I have noticed that the 30's are selling like hot cakes on ebay and a lot of the 40's aren't making the reserve bids. Kind of tells you something don't it?

I have 2 DC 40 and the one that was the best of two....took a crap at 14 mo! Out of warranty and I'm S O L!
I can drop the$89 for a replacement no problem...but, I'm pissed about it! They know that it's a crap collar and they should pick the tab up!

Well this one lasted me a little over a year and it did fine until it went out. Does it hurt the 40 to charge it after every hunt? I do that with all mine. Just wondering.

Just out of curiousity Dave, but do you have an Astro 220 or 320? It seems to me like guys with the 40's have problems running them with the 220, but guys with the 320's swear by them.

I can't make any promises about the 40, but I charge my 30's after every hunt and it hasn't seemed to mess with overall battery life yet.

From experience I recomend killing those batteries sometime because they will build a memory. I never charge any of mine (light, tracker, shocker) until they are almost dead.

I am the complete opposite. All my stuff goes on charge as soon as I get home. It also all comes in the house so it stays at a stable temperature. With the old type batteries, NiCad, they would develop a memory but the new batteries, NiMH or Lithium, are not supposed to and I have not seen any evidence of it.

Talk to anyone who knows batteries and they will tell you temperature change kills a battery faster than anything. Leaving a light or collars in the dogbox or in a kennel is the worst thing you can do to them.

I bring mine in the house also. NiMH batteries do build a memory, I have seen plenty of evidence it. The Dewalt saleman says it dont hurt there NiMH batteries to leave them on the charger all the time but it'll shorten the life of that battery. To me it's kinda like bacon you get it out of the pan when it's done.
