How do you get your Pups!!!!

When you need pups. How do you get them?

Posted by Geminite on 12-31-2005 02:02 AM:

When I was looking for a Plott Hound prospect, i looked on the internet and stumbled upon the Plottdogs.com forum....this is where i met Steve Herd...his dogs had a lot of the blood that i was looking for and you could tell that he was a very experienced, trustworthy breeder that cared about the well-being of his hounds....he has bred and raised many great coon and bear dogs....So i got an 8 week old pup from him when i met him in person at the 2005 Plott Days...i plan to breed my Gem female to one of his dogs if she turns out to be a good coondog....

pups

HEY chiggers you thinkin about getting another pup

Posted by Chiggers on 12-31-2005 02:07 AM:

I am also wondering if you have done all of the above, What have you had the most luck with. I myself have done all of the above and have had the best luck getting pups from well known breeders that do Very Little Bragging. Actually after you talk to them, you really didnt know if you wanted one of those things or not.

Pups

I have got pups all 3 ways. If I had to rate my success, it would definately be 1&2 are way ahead of 3. It seems the times i bought a pup because I thought it looked like a good cross just didn't work out. But hey, that just might be I am bad at recognizing what a good cross would be.

I have had better luck getting a pup from a breeder I respected or breeding them myself.

I have done it each of these ways. In a rebuilding year now for a few years (lol) and so I don't have anything to breed my own pups with. I either go for a certain breeder or a cross that looks really good. Then picking the right one can be fun. had some good picks and some bad. Going to have to improve though because the wife thinks I have owned too many dogs in my lifetime already. She is used to having a pet and keeping it forever or until it dies. She laughs when we count the number of dogs me and my Dad have owned over time. My Dad just picked up a pup from Bill Riddick, good line in our opinion. That pup is being spoiled by everyone and can't wait for it to get old enough to take to the woods.

Larry that was exactly why I started this poll. I have had the same thing happen and was wondering if it was just me. I have had better luck either breeding myself or picking a older, honest, good breeder, sending him the money and telling him to send me a pup, and never even picking the litter.

from Oak Ridge.

Did Oak Ridge own or have something to do with"Uplingers Joe"? He was a real reproducer and i was thinking there was a connection.
