I always follow the race to see who wins. Can hardly think what it must be like to race that far under all conditions. Makes my excuses for not going to the woods seem pretty small.

it was a beautiful day yesterday. 17 and sunny with just a slight breeze. Today its cold with 20-30mph winds. They have a GPS tracker on the sleds this year. the kids and I have been checking on them all morning.

Lucky dog. That would be cool to see! A thousand miles with your dogs through the worst that mother nature can dish out. That is awesome! I'm such a wuss! lol

Next year I plan on trying some skijoring with the girls.

That would be fun, too. I've taken a couple of sled dog trips. Those dogs are awesome, they live to run.

We were walking by the starting line when he took off. There were too many people to get a pick of him.

Plott sled dogs for hunting

This is Tag Hawks of Idaho using a sled to hunt his Plotts in areas where no vehicles are allowed. His Plotts are used on cat and bear. He covers 24 to 34 miles roundtrip using the sled - distances that would not be possible on foot. The Plotts LOVE it. He built two sleds so a hunting buddy can also go with him when they want to hunt together. These are Texas Plotts - happy to do everything asked of them.

Now that's cool. his sled looks like a kitchen stool mounted on some cross country skies. oh the ideas are swirling now and we just got 4" of snow last night and its still comming down.

Theres a guy from Mn here that bred some english with his sled dogs because of the way they pulled on the leash. He likes them.

I'm stationed on Elmendorf too. Does he have any dogs?

Posted by skyblu on 03-09-2010 03:25 PM:

Yes, homemade sled

Tag tried just having the dogs pull him on his cross country skis. But when they hit a track and made a sharp turn he found himself two feet under the snow - in a wreck. He went to Wal Mart, bought a folding ladder/stool and fastened it to his skis. Bought harnesses he can quickly remove when the dogs hit a track. They listen to him and enthusiatically understand the program.
