Horse Wormer?

Do any of you use horse wormer to worm dogs? If you do what and how much per dog?

I use Zimectrin Gold for tapeworms. It is notched on the tube and each notch is for 50 pounds. It also has Ivomec in it so you better make sure your dog doesn't have heartworms before you use it.

I have also used Safeguard horse wormer with good results as well.

Ive used horse wormer for years, and yeah hes right you better make sure they dont have heartworms. Ive seen one killed because of that.

i use the horse wormer paste with good results.....i use a glob about the size of a pencil eraser for every 50 lbs....

be careful with the zimectrin gold...if you use enough of it to take care of the tape worms it will be overdosing your dog on ivermectin....the ratio is off.....

Had a dog test positive for heartworms. Gave him a normal "heartworm" prevention dose of Ivomec every month and in 1 year he was heartworm negative. We kept the microfilariae killed with the ivomec and the adult worms eventually died. Our dog was only slightly positive so it was not a bad infestation but ivomec did not kill our dog that had heartworms. There are so many opinions on Ivomec and so many misconceptions about it. I am no vet I can only tell you what happened with us.

Small doses of Ivomec are prescribed for heartworms. The danger in giving Ivomec to a dog with heartworms is if you give it too much it will kill the adult worms and they can clog the heart up and kill the dog. That is why it is always best to do a heartworm test before starting a dog on Ivomec or any other heartworm medicine.

I don't think the IVOMEC KILLS ADULT WORMS ----It only kills MICROFILARIAS----the adult will died of in time --told by a VET --I'm not one

Same thing my vet said about how my dog went from positive to negative. The adult worms just died and the Ivomec kept the micofilarias killed off.

Friend of mine used to think ivomec kills all worms like even the hooks and whips. Til his dog got real sick and went to the vet with a belly full of worms. He said the vet looked at him like he were an idiot when he said but I give him ivomec every month. Vet sent home with 5 days of panacur and dog all better. Bet lots of people make this mistake.

I belieeve the Ivomec kills the adult worms in the heart and the dogs are not able to past them through the blood stream when they die in the heart. I once saw a heart with heart worms in it, looked like spaghetti growing out of it. Trott.

I've used Panacur horse wormer with good results in the past. If I'm not mistaken, you have to give it three days in a row, and on an empty stomach.

i give zimectrin gold the first of every month and it works for everything.

Empty stomach? Not sure about that. The directions on the panacur powder packets say to mix with food. If you mix it in food and they eat it then the stomach is not empty. It is 3 days in a row - I'm just not sure about the empty stomach part.

Hookworm, your talking about the dog version..........the thread is on the horse version of wormers.

I feed all my dogs first thing in the morining and when I worm, I worm early evening and had no problems doing so.

Oh - your right...................It is on the horse version.
