Hey Matt,
Been thru the collar bone thing. Had surgery on mine. I was off work for three months. I chose not to hunt during that time. Didn't want to do a header in the woods and have a setback.
I don't think you can have anybody else handle you dog if your the registered handler. I might be wrong tho. You could always spectate and let somebody else handle him for you.
Good luck.
Scott

Matt get a handler until you heal well enough to do it yourself...You cannot call your hound in a nite hunt and have someone else handle him..

Collar bone

I've busted a collar bone twice. You must be one tuff "son of a gun"!!!! When I broke mine it was like someone sticking a knife in ya and twisting if ya moved wrong. If I was you I would stay in the recliner!!

im almost positive you CAN have someone lead snap and unsnap your dog for you!!BUT you have to do all the calling

Posted by roughcreek on 03-31-2009 05:53 PM:

yes you can have someone lead catch what ever your dog & still call it.

Posted by on 03-31-2009 07:43 PM:

Really? Ok, I'll show you why I think you can't. And you give a rule that indicates you can.Ok?

Rule #1 "One handler to each dog. An handler unable to complete hunt must pickup his dog"
Now somebody show me anything that contradicts that. Unless you are under 12 years of age, I think you must physically handle your dog.

Posted by martin921 on 03-31-2009 07:52 PM:

i seen a post on here someone asking ukc same question and todd responded back you can have someone else physically handle dog for you but you have to be the one to call it.

I know a guy locally that has a disability and has a letter from ukc that says he will call his dog but he may have someone to handle him. I've seen him do this in the winter classic and rqe's so there must be some legality somewhere

when i had shoulder surgery i called ukc about this & it is ok.

Posted by on 03-31-2009 09:16 PM:

I don't remember it ever coming up before. The rulebook don't seem to allow it but that doesn't mean UKC doesn't allow exceptions. I wonder what the official answer is?

I asked Allen about this last fall after I having an injury. At that time he told me it was ok.

Jim,

There was a post on here not too long ago about a guy who was visually impaired. He asked if he could call the dog but have someone else shine the tree for him etc. I believe the answer was he needed a letter from UKC saying it was ok. I believe UKC required a letter from an eye doctor stating he did indeed have a visual impairment. I would think this could work the same.

Jim I bumped that thread to the top." It is Shining trees?"

Allen answered this question on the Beagle board and said yes, someone physically impaired can use someone else to lead the dog. I would assume that is the same for coon hunts. But the rule doesn't say that.
