What's wrong with this pup?
I know this is off the topic of coonhounds, but I suppose it applies to dogs in general.
A friend of mine has a 5 week old litter of pit bull pups. One puppy in the litter has terrible balance, and walks with her head down and cocked to the left. Well, most of the time to the left. And she whines a lot more than the others. She is sort of playful, though, biting at me and pawing at me. She just can't walk good and her head stays down and cocked to the side.
I don't know much about blindness, but I've wondered if that was a possibility. I've watched her a little, and she seems like she can't see well, if at all. But would that make her head cock like it is?
I've also wondered if maybe she has some nerve damage in her neck or something. She doesn't really seem to be in pain though. I don't know, I've never seen anything like it before.
Just wondering if anyone had any ideas of what might be wrong with her. What do ya'll think?
IT MAY OF GOT LAID ON........STEP ON.....COULD BE GENETIC.....ALOT OF POSSIBILITYS....

EVERYTHING happens for a reason.
I thought of ear mites too. The guy that has the litter is supposed to be taking them to the vet this week. I hope nothing bad is wrong with the pup. Even if it is, I think I'm going to take her and keep her. I know it'll be hard to find a home for a dog that has problems, but even dogs with health problems deserve happy homes too.
My grandma had a kitten that started acting the way you were describing and a vet told her it sounded like nerve damage from getting into or eating some type of chemical. Hope thats not whats wrong with the pup though as the kitten never recovered and later died.
I feel like maybe she got stepped on by her mama.
Also, this litter of pups comes from an accidental breeding between mother and son. The guy that owned them at the time was in the hospital and didn't know the female was in heat, and couldn't do anything about it anyway. So maybe it is genetic, or coming from the inbreeding.
ANYTHING COULD REALLY BE A POSSIBILITY.
I WAS JUST THINKING YOU KNOW HOW WHEN YOUR EAR HURTS OR WHEN YOU NOTICE KIDS WITH EAR INFECTIONS THEY ALWAYS TILT THEIR HEADS. AND IF YOU HAVE ANY KIND OF PAIN IN YOUR EAR, EVEN A SHORT PASSING ONE, YOUR HEAD WILL AUTOMATICALLY TILT TO WHICHEVER SIDE THE PAIN IS COMING FROM.
WEIRD, BUT TRUE.

PUP
A friend of mine has a dog called zig zag this dog walks and sways left to right like he is drunk. He has bad joints in the front from all of the falling. He has a neurological disorder a problem with the brain stem. Other than that he is a happy dog around 3 years old and just a regular old mutt part bull breed.
I just hope the pup isn't suffering in any way. She seems fairly happy. I hope the vet can tell what exactly is going on.
Kelli
I f you guys trust the vet they will let you know if the pup is suffering. I have had some pets here(still do LOL) that others would not take the time to care for. I've always had a soft spot for disabled creatures. I trust my vets completely. We are good friends. If I tried to keep an animal alive "too long" they'de let me know.
Hope it's just an ear thing and fixable. If not and you keep the pup I hope it gives you years of pleasure and vice versa! You know other than the tilt of the head...LOL.. that pup could be me. Balance, whining, biting and playful Yup, that's me
ask my friends...LOL...
Good luck and keep us up to date. I know I'd love to see some pix in the future of a success story!

We had a female pup
That did the same thing. We took her to the vet at 10 weeks old and she had a tumor on the back of her brain that was causing her embalance. It was horrible to watch her and the best thing was to have her put to sleep which is what we did. Vet said it was just one of those things... no real reason or cause.
Hope this helps.
pit bull is whats wrong with it.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'
That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.
We had a beagle pup when I was little that got hit in the head when it was young and couldny walk unless it leaned against the wall. Everyone felt bad for it but he was alright, eventully had a seizure and died. But he live for prolly 4 or 5 years.

Pit Bulls
There are nothing wrong with pit bulls they are a very loyal and loving breed. I own a couple my self and are working catch dogs. they are also loving pets. My kids 2,6&8 ply with them all the time supervised or not they can pull on them ride them ar tease them and they are never aggressive. Now let some stranger try to mess with my kids and its a different story. Other than bulldogs and coondogs I also raise Mt.Curs for hog hunting. They recently had a litter and one in the litter started off the same way and got worse. it turned out to be a Neurological problem, I had to put the little girl down. Hope it turns out for you differently for you.
