World Hunt .....Hope they never have it down there again

Bad place for a World Hunt....Not near enough support down there to justify having a World Hunt. Terrible hunting also, I never saw the first coon all weekend

HMMM so have it in a place where if they don't score 1000+ just ban it???? Get real!!! It takes a COONHOUND down here bar none! I love the southern hunts. Got to realize WE ALL DONT TREE 8 a night.. BUT we still love to hunt...

It doesn't get any better than coon hunting on the Savannah River, friend.

This is the birthplace of the sport. It's where it all started.

Have a little respect.

Posted by rweller on 09-24-2017 04:56 AM:

I agree with Tom. You don't have to score 8 coon a night but it would be nice to be able to score on 2-4 a night. It takes coondogs to win no matter you go.

I'd say the world hunt will hang in the north for awhile after this weekend!

Buddy that’s your dogs fault. I promise you elberton has good hunting and plentiful Coon. Just because where you come from you have to beat them off the porch with a broom to get to the truck to goto work doesn’t mean every where else sucks. Train or buy a better hound, put your boots on and try again.

Are coon hard to find down South?

Low coon population? That's where the cold nose hounds would shine, I would think? Good luck to all and be careful and enjoy.

Re: World Hunt .....Hope they never have it down there again

You are not going to see any +1000 point scores down there, but you better be packing a sure enough coondog if do go down there.

A lot of dogs seem to break down when they have to really work for it. Sometimes if one is used to treeing 5 or 6 a night, they can come apart when coon are thin.

Sadly you're probably right. Its way to tough hunting for most dogs in the South.

Posted by thomasg on 09-24-2017 05:07 AM:

you would quit coon hunting if you had to turn loose in the thin coons and harsh hunting conditions i hunt in . lol think we should have the world hunt where cast average 1 or 2 coons a cast to measure our breeding stock . after all a rat terrier can tree lots of coon in your neck of the woods .lol

I hope it's never held back up north again why is it fair to us to have to drive up there every year

I think the Elberton Club done a fine job

Posted by joey on 09-24-2017 05:24 AM:

I dont think there is hardly anywhere the coons are so thin that a dog cant get a couple treed. What are they trying to tree in all those trees that were circled and slick? I don't just mean the finals but the whole weekend.

Makes sence to me to go to KCs world hunt in some awesome hunting and hunt for some big $$,$$$ instead a big peice of wood.

Posted by Kenneth Tavares on 09-24-2017 06:15 AM:

For every track that was struck there should be a coon and tree with plus points. If the dog strikes and it don't have a coon in the tree is it really a world championship hound? We all need to breed better hounds, not easy pop up dogs. Better noses to tree those tough tracks and have those raccoons, now that is a World Champion Hound!

Most dogs will tree a coon, but not all dogs will hunt a coon. This weekend proved not all dogs will hunt a coon. Instead of complaining I think people should thank everyone who helped put it together. No you didn't get dry holed, you just got introduced to Southern hunting.

About everyone of you that's posting on here didn't even make the finals so please stop telling those of us that did how easy it was. I know a guy from my neck of the woods that his dog treed a coon but had go go 2 miles to Do it and he couldn't be heard. Went home.

This hunt is to crown the world champion in this kennel club. When you make a dog compete against the worst elements possible but yet still require plus points you have a recipe for a lot of angry individuals. I understand thin coon but when dogs stretch out thousands of yards in all directions looking for a coon track then something needs changed. When one coon wins almost every cast it's nothing but pure luck which dog chose the right direction to go. This afterall is coon hunting not dog hunting. A guide in a place like Elberton is everything. They will without question make or break a cast. When 32 dogs fail to see a coon then friends something needs to be chsnged.

There was a reason there was hundreds of less dogs entered in the RQE and Zones. There was a lot of smarter people then me out there.

I am thankful for the Hodt Club and all the UKC staff that worked hard for this to be a smooth event. I just feel that requiring plus points for advancement in the finals is wrong in a place like Elberton. Everyone of those dogs got under countless coons to get to the finals. Let a cast winner tha5 did all it could do with what it was given advance. Dogs just can't invent what's not there.

I have to agree with this.......
No, I didn't have a dog in it......But I have hunted areas like this.
When you have this many Hounds hunting in one area, the Coons will change their feed times etc.
It needs to be in a place where you can tree more than one Coon in the Final Cast.
Just my thought....
Tim

People I hunt down south about every night and I don't have any problems treeing coon, yeah you ain't gonna pop them up real quick usually but normally 500yds is about average track length. I have also hunted up north quite a bit and I'll be the first to tell you its night and day difference between them. If you folks think that your dog can be the best anywhere then your crazy. Most northern raised and trained dogs don't have the drive it takes in the south (nor their handlers)lol, and running across a bean or cornfield doesn't count as getting deep. And southern raised and trained dogs don't know what they've got into when they run across a cornmaze when they come out the other side of a 20 acre patch of woods, lol there is no reason to be putting anybody or any dog down. We all love to hunt but our hunting is different no doubt about it. There is dead cast everywhere for lots of doing reasons, dog power, coon population, time the coon moved or haven't moved yet, the dogs in the cast, could have 1 idiot dog that screws up the whole cast, we can sit and make excuses for a while but it won't change nothing. You fellas from the north complain about it world hunt being in the south every once in a while but what about us down here that never complain about autumn oaks being in the same place, not that I want it moved but why is that hunt so special it gets a national grand champion out of it, ukc just says the hell with a special title for winter classic. Classic hunts more dogs and the man that wins just gets to say i won. No special honors about it, now yall wonder why we don't care if your dog can't hunt down south. I'll be waiting on your responses.
