i think obama has way more to do with it than location.... how do you know how many coons they will tree.... seems as if the land of plenty produced a dead cast last week also

By looking at the numbers for each zone location is deffinatly one factor.. isn't zone 2 normally the biggest zone? Its third this year by almost half the entries of zone 7

I for one like the finals being in a location where it takes a dog that will go hunting and possibly move a track further than a couple hundred yards. A coondog should go deep if necassary warm a cold feeder track drift it out over the course of possibly up to a mile and have the meat at the end. jmo. This location should fit the bill. Let's see who has a coondog.

economy more than anything. average household income is down $4,000 and that basically amounts to people cutting out vacations.

In the last 7-8 years UKC has figured out how to make zones more centrally located for everyone....But LA is just too far for some.

It has nothing to do with how tough the hunting is, as big scores dont much matter.

There are a lot of variables that are out of your controle when it comes to winning, regardless of what your packing.

2 days driving time and the additional expence just isnt worth it to me.....And apparently im not alone.

Guessing location has something to do with the lower entries but I know for sure that entries across the country are way down as a whole. We can blame it on people not having enough faith in their dog to win where the hunting is a little tougher but.......Hunt entries are just down. Every club around is scrounging for entries! Good luck to all that make it to the finals!!!

LOCATION!!!!! I always try to qualify a couple dogs for the zones, but this year I never even attended a qualifier.

Location

No doubt! There's tons of rqe events around here and the entry numbers were way down all year at all of them! The economy isn't that much different then last year.

Let's see. Had I rather drive to win a big ol trophy or drive to win the SS in coon infested Salem Illinois? Could 27% think that recken? Prolly not but 10% could. The rest is 4 dollar a gallon gas I think.

The cost of travel has lots of people tied down. Location is not really any different if us southerners had to travel up north. I think the location is fair. I know that several vacation hot spots were reporting their lowest season many years. The economy is playing a huge factor.

I'm glad to see it in the location that it's in. I don't have a dog to hunt but if I did, I would hunt it no matter where it's at. The only guys that I see complaining about it are the guys that are use to it being in there back yard. And if your dog can only tree a coon or two down here then they don't have a chance no matter where it's at.

Posted by Roger Smith on 09-08-2012 05:24 AM:

It's Obama

You guys up in the corn belt are just spoiled. If I lived up there I would be too. It will take a coondog, lots of luck, and a prayer or two, but it will be rewarding when your dog gets deep, gets hooked, and proves himself. The driving thing, now you know how we feel when it's in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, etc. It's a killer of a drive and this year being a major fright for our rights and our freedom and our homes and businessess I understand where your coming from. Good luck to all and I will be praying for all of you on the road. I hope you have an injoyable trip.

I dont believe its the economy, coonhunters will find a way to support there addiction. Is the economy any worse than it was last year?

Its the location. How many people on this thread alone said they didnt even go to an RQE because of the location. Usually atleast 2 northern zones have close to, if not more than 100 dogs per zone. Go back and do some research. This year there is only one zone with more than 100 and not a second zone location close to 100.

Posted by gdjr on 09-08-2012 01:06 PM:

??????

I'll be curious to c how many dogs that make it through the zones don't even go to the finals. I'm betting there will only be around 75 dogs actually show up at the finals.

It seems to me some people are upset that they have to travel for once. How about all of these other hunters that have traveled for years and years to this event yes is not central located but guess what they still will crown a World Champion.

THE PRE ENTRIE NUMBERS FOR THE SS IS WAY DOWN TO

Posted by amazingcursouth on 09-08-2012 05:02 PM:

numbers in most of the hunts are down. not just UKC. Location plays a big factor but the economy is worse than it was last year. or at least it is here.

our zone is down 100 dogs from last yr. its just to far of a trip for most people. and from the entries of the rqe's in this area i wasn't surprized by the low zone numbers. i actually only figured around 50 dogs would enter zone 1. and i hit the nail on the head.
