compact tractors

Been looking at compact tractors with loader. Been dealing on a Mahindra 1526L. Little bigger frame. Looked at the Kubota, John Deere and a few others, most were more expensive. The 1526L is 26 HP. Looking for ideas if that is big enough. Looking for ideas, anybody?

Bob have a New Holland 33 hp, we bought property and built new house and that tractor has been a life saver. Now I'm not an expert on tractors however it seems I always wish I had a bigger one. If u know what you want it for always think a little ahead. Can't hurt to go bigger than what u think will work.

I got a John Deere 1025 this summer and love it and I shopped them all and could have saved a little money on others but the Deere dealership is here in my home town and if was to have a problem and needed service it is just easier to haul it the other ones were 45 minutes to and hour away but I must say I love the easy on and off of the mower deck and the easy on and off of the loader or the bucket I am well satisfied and the little back hoe is a work horse

My advise is: Buy about 10-20 HP bigger than you think you'll need. lol... I've never regretted having a little extra power on any tractor I've had.

As far as brands - that's an ongoing debate and personal preference. There are several good brands out there. The only ones I'd stay away from are the Chinese Tractors because getting parts can be a nightmare. I know a friend that cant get basic parts for his, so he has a 4 ton paperweight sitting in his yard that wont start.

I'm partial to Kubotas and John Deeres. They are workhorses and you can get any parts when needed. The name cost a little bit more at first, but imo it's worth it and I've drove every brand out there.

and if you pinned me down to just one brand, it'd be Kubota. Toughest dang things I ever seen - almost indestructible...

One last piece of advise: Don't even look at one unless it's 4 wheel drive. That's a must have in a compact tractor imo.

Tractor

Depends on what you want to use it for.

I've got a John Deere 2520. Got a better deal on it than a similar Kubota. Front Loader, Mower Deck, Roto-Tiller.

Pay attention to what tires you get.

Any time something goes wrong, parts are expensive.

Love working (playing) with my tractor!!!

I would go look at and test drive all of them that I could. That's what I did when I was looking at buying one. I ended up buying a Kioti CK3510 hydrostat trans. It was cheaper than the other brands and had imop better features than the rest of the 30-40 horse entry level tractors. One big thing that played a factor in me buying one was the dealer. My dealer is 2 hours away from the house but they are a locally owned dealer ship. I had a sensor go bad on mine the day after I brought it home, I called them and they were at my house the next morning fixing the problem. I haven't had any problems since. They came to my house last week to do some recall work on the quick attachment handle and do a pcm update. One good thing about the Mahindra is it doesn't have re-gen and that is a major plus in my book but my Mahindra dealer wouldn't even call me back with a price.

I will ad to my first post that the Kioti and New Holland are both nice tractors and do have good parts availability. I like them both.

But Kubota is still my 1st choice if money is not an issue or you can find one at a discount with low hours.

Again, just make sure it's 4 wheel drive. Otherwise you're wasting your time buying a compact tractor.

The one thing that steered me away from the Kubota was the rocker pedal and the seat. I agree on the 4wd for any tractor. Ask the dealer about filling the tires, most will do it for free if you ask about it.

Thanks, everyone. After reading some comments on here I am now looking at 38 hp tractors. I found after checking around the difference between a 26 hp and a 38 hp is about $2000 or less on some. Does anyone know anything about the Massey Ferguson? I found a 1739E 38.5 hp. Has a Shibaura engine. Kubota has it's own engine, but like all the others it's made in Japan. One thing I found is every dealer has told me that theirs is the best. LOL!

Massey is about the only one I haven't driven, but they do look nice. I had a Massey backhoe years ago that was great. If you got a reputable dealer nearby, it might be worth a try.

Good move upping the HP. A 35-40 HP tractor will do about twice the work that smaller tractor will do. But like everything else in life is always about whether a guy wants to turn loose of the money.

Getting bang for the buck

Most tractor brands make what they call residential tractors, which is what you are indicating. Because they expect 'residential' buyers don't think about the price as much, they mark them higher. I know a couple guys that got a better deal on a slightly larger 'agricultural' tractor.

If at all possible use wheel weights instead of fluid,when the calcium eats the valve stem out the leak will rot the rim & rims ain't cheap,I got a 150 hp Allis Chalmbers 7045 w/ a Westendorf loader way more hp than I wanted but bought it well worth the money & a whole lot cheaper than a smaller horse tractor also have a Massey Ferguson 180 around 65hp w/o a loader both are diesel & both work well & that's from a former John Deere man,buy what you can afford.
