Indoor Kennel

Does anyone have an all enclosed kennel? If so, what are some of the concerns to consider when constructing other than being able to wash the waste out? I am thinking of insulating the walls and ceiling as well so it can be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Any ideas or concerns are appreciated. Thanks

I agree... I highly recommend having some outdoor runs, for them to use to go bathroom and get some sun and fresh air. I made "flapper doors" out of plexiglass to keep the wind and drafts out, between the indoor run and outdoor run.

No sunshine causes some major problems along with the smell

Ok here is my dilemma. ... I currently keep my dogs at my business but I am selling it out so I am planning on having to move my dogs to my house in town. In efforts to be a good neighbor as well as provide the best care for my hounds I was thinking the indoor kennel might be the best route. I have even gone as far as considering some type of septic system for the kennel or plumbing into storm sewer system. I already keep good care of my kennels by spraying them out twice daily and keeping a close eye on the dogs. Will the dogs not getting good sunlight in the kennel lead to health problems for them? Also will cleaning kennels twice a day still not be sufficient for the smell and cleanliness? My main goals were to have a lockable kennel secure enough to keep hunting items in the front area, keep the smell and noise down for both the neighbors and my family as well as give the best possible care to the hounds.

I have also considered how I might could use fans and vents to provide airflow in the kennel.

how many dogs do you have? if its only two i dont think they would mind a nice bed in the utility room!they might even enjoy the living room while your watching hunting shows

I usually keep anywhere from 3 to 5 dogs so they can certainly make a mess quickly. Sounds like it's going to be best to consider the indoor/ outdoor option.

all I can say is my vet loves mine ! I have 12 runs ask any questions or concerns you have and I will try to address them 1 at a time ! like air I have multifan 3 stage system includes 2 variable fans and heater fan with heat being supplied by outside wood boiler

Are you saying yours are totally enclosed and you have good results? How often and how do you clean them? Do you still wash the waste out in yours or are you havin to pick it up? Would love to know more about your kennels.

Blue Dog1 is right... dog's receive vitamin D and other benefits from the sun. It's not just about fresh air... they need sunlight to stay healthy.

Seriously??? There is no nutritional value in artificial light!?!

I guess I don't understand... why would you invest in a sewer system, a ventilation system, and now a lighting system, none of which will be as effective as the fresh air and sunlight outside, as opposed to installing a reasonable sized outdoor run and training your dogs to keep their mouths shut???
