Is There Any Left?

After hunting a mess of dogs in the last couple months I have decided there is NO HONEST coon hunters left! There is also NO decent dogs for sale at a reasonable price! I hunted with a dog last night that was supposed to be a decent honest older hound for $1000 and after 3 turn outs I once again came home with out a dog. 1st dump was an armadillo race and we got him out of a hole, the next 2 dumps he never left seeing distance from the truck. What has happened to the honest people that used to sell a decent dog at a reasonable price? I have spent a small fortune on gas driving to look at dogs that the owners just flat LIE about. What is wrong with people? I hunted with one 6 yr old dog so far that treed a coon when I was trying it and it had no mouth at all. I was told it had a good mouth and the owner had no way to send a video of it. I drove 2 hrs to get there and we turned loose and the dog treed a coon but you literally couldn't hear her if she got over about 350-400 yds. The owner ONLY wanted $1500 for her. Does that even seem reasonable to anyone?

Sorry, Rant over now. Haha I'm just so fed up with all the lies people will tell you to sell their culls and it ends up costing me $50-$100 in gas to go look at them. I told my wife if I don't find a decent older dog in the next month or so I was selling everything and saving myself a lot of money and frustration! HAHA

U should get them to let u hunt the dog first my buddy hunted his dog a week. Before he bought it

Well seeing how people sell pups off the tit for 1000 and 8-12 month old dogs for 2000 it don't surprise me. Sad thing is they can charge that cause people actually pay them outragous prices for them. I don't get it either bud. Good luck

I have $200 more in travel money and if I can't find an older dog that will hunt before it runs out there will be a new Garmin, dog box, Sportdog 3225, and a young pup on here for sale. It's just crazy how high dogs has gotten since I quite hunting about 6-7 years ago. $1000 used to get you a dog that could tree a coon regularly, not a world beater, but a decent older dog. Now $1000 apparently gets you a dog to feed that will keep you company at the tail gate!

Yep and every dog on here is a nice dog that will make it as long as you put some fur in its mouth. Oh and none of them been fooled with much either. LOL. I typically buy dogs from my friends or I buy a pup and raise it. At least I can trust my friends. Hang in there you will find sonething.

I'm certainly no expert. Very far from it. But i will tell you what worked best for me. I "tried out" a whole whole lot of dogs just like you did. My storys were almost identical to yours. That happened over and over and over and over again. The two best dogs I ever owned in my life were not "for sale". I went hunting with the people just as friends going hunting. I saw what they had and watched the dogs . I paid attention in the woods. One day my friend actually called me up one day and gave me the dog. Best dog I ever owned. THe next best dog i ever owned, I went hunting with the dog 5 or 6 nights and i just made the guy an offer and he took it. Neither one of these dogs were listed as "for sale". I just went hunting with the people and made friends. Just my experiences. Good luck.

theres just not many real coon dogs forsale.the few good dogs ive owned i rasied from pups.

Lesson learned by us ~ never believe anyone that says they train dogs or say they have TV shows.

Got bent over real good by someone that you should be able to trust. Live and learn.

As of this morning my price range shrunk! My boss has cut out all overtime and cut me and my wife to 3 days a week! Yes, I work the same EMS service as my wife. No laughing! haha BUT on the bright side all hunting seasons are starting to open here so at least I will have plenty of time to hunt. My schedule is Tuesday-Thursday so I can go to most of the hunts now. If anyone has a decent dog they don't want to sell but want it hunted I have plenty of places and time now. I won't charge anything unless you want it hauled to a couple local hunts then I would split the cost with you. I have 6 clubs within a 45 minute drive. I have been around coon dogs for about 25 years so I'm not new to coon hunting or taking care of hunting dogs. Anyone that wants a dog hunted is more than welcome to come check out my place and go for a hunt if they want to. I am about 40 miles from I-65 and about the same from I-40 and around 80 miles south west of Nashville. If anyone has an older dog at a reasonable price or have a dog that is setting in the pen they want hunted just send me a message.
