? hunting in 10-15 even 20mph wind

i was wondering what your experience is hunting in the wind how coon move and how it effects tracking?

Thats about the one thing that will keep me out of the woods. I hate hunting when its to windy, coon seem to move alright though. At least around here.....

i was deer hunting last week in 25 mph wind and seen a big coon an hour before dark so i think they would move

they move fine im sure ,but i like to go to the woods and be able to listen to my dogs work, if its that windy you cant really hear them work where is the fun in that

Never had a problem treeing coon in the wind in Ohio, matter fact the best time to hunt is in the wind just before a storm hits. It does make it very hard to hear thought of course. I hate competition hunting in the wind, most guys pitch there dogs.

With the Garmin I don't mind the high winds. If the wind is blowing from the north at 30 mph and the temp is 20 deg you won't have trouble with other hunters. Strong winds from the south with the weather changing in a day or two, I have had some of my best hunts as far as treeing coon.

Yep what everyone else said

its rarely ever not windy around here, with the wind coming right off the water. I don't believe wind itself effects coons at all, it does make it some hard to hear when its blowing hard.

no problems...

as long as you got a tracking system, and have a steady treedog your fine.and when you have a dog that has a big mouth..windy nights arent a issue...believe or not.

I hunt in about any amount of wind. Too few nights available to hunt to stay home because of the wind.

Wind?

I will go as long as its not so windy that all you hear is limbs a crackin'. Went last night with a pretty good breeze - short hunt, three drops, three coon home by 8:15.
If ya hunt in the wind, ya better have your tracker handy.

I hunted in thirty mile per hour winds last night; the only draw back is hearing the dogs, but a tracker works fine. Had a good hunt, treed two singles, a double and a litter. Made first turn out at 9:30 and was home in bed by 2:30. Tracking seemed good, coon were moving, moon was bright, pup did a good job. Had fun time. Tom

those strong winds can make shooting a coon out of a tall tree a real challenge.
theres been times ive had to shoot twice at a coon on those nites.

i was thinking exactly the same thing! i remember last year the last night of season i just had to shoot 1 down and the dang coon was in the top of a big oak with about 20 mph winds... nonetheless it was a fun shot! haha
