I like males better, get them out let the piss and mark thier territory and after 15 minutes you get a solid race, that usually ends in a tree of bay.

I know. I was just teasing. I dont have a preference other than if it is good you can have a litter out of a female. The males don't come in heat.

They both get the job done.

on the average ,males are a little bit grittier --
will tree a few more bear than females from same bloodlines -

almost too close to call

females may tree plenty and less vet work . easier to train

males more likely to be growly with each other -more likely to be a little oversexed- -takes a little training of social skills -

-i let the females work it out themselves -

In the summer months where it's dry and arid females may stay longer on a walking bear than the males. I attribute that to males always scent marking and getting dehydrated faster..........

my best dogs are males, they took a little longer to get down to business always wanting to play, but when they took off they made the learning curve a lot steeper than any of the females I have had. All in all it becomes a preference, what works for me and why may not work someone else. I prefer males but that is just me.

My two cents, it does not matter what you run as long as you accomplish what you set out to do.

Have seen A female realy crank it up after havin pups...

Are they better over all I wouldn't say... We are runnin A female as our anchor currently. But it has not always been this way.. Run with males as anchor most of the time. But that is situational too the best dog at the time. Know many old houndsmen were big on A female after she had A litter was A better dog.. Different style of hunting then..

out of our pack we've had females and males that have been swatted and ruffed up this last season, and I'm color blind when it comes to hounds, if you show me a hound that does what needs to be done on the game your chasing than its a good hound in my book and I don'tcare what it looks like, the only downfall that i see in a female hound is if she comes into heat during season she misses out for part of the hunting, and if you don't know she is in heat and bring her hunting, that really messes things up, cuz now you have males who are only hunting one thing and that sure isn't a bear.lol

It dont make one bit of difference. They are equally matched on both. I have seen good and bad males and females. If you want a Male to hunt and not mark territory have him fixed and they will keep their mind on hunting.

male or female

you hit the nail mountain man , I agree with ya all the way,, I run 6 males, they are all cut , looking back over the last 36 years , I have run every color and breed , reg. hounds, grade hounds, curs, airdales , you name it ,its been in my box, good and bad in both genders . my personal preferance is cut males. my dad was a cowboy all his life, he used nothing but geldings.
