A Great Autumn Oaks

I THOUGHT THIS WAS ONE OF THE BETTER HUNTS I'VE BEEN TO. UKC DID A GREAT JOB GETTING ALL THE DOGS IN THE WOODS AND BACK! THAT WAS A TASK YES SOME HAD TO DRIVE A LITTLE WAYS BUT WHEN YOU HAVE THAT MANY DOGS TO HUNT UKC OR LOCAL COON CLUBS CAN'T HELP IT. I HAD A CHANCE TO WATCH THE BENCH SHOW, IT WAS THE MOST PROFESSIONAL HOUND SHOW I'VE EVER SEEN. ANOTHER THING THAT IMPRESSED ME WAS THE PRESIDENT OF UKC AND THE VICE PRESIDENT JUDGING THE BENCH SHOW. I'M GLAD TO SEE THAT THEY WOULD TAKE THIS TASK UPON THEMSELF INSTEAD OF ASKING SOMEONE ELSE, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN THE EASY THING TO DO. JUST A SUPER HUNT!

THANKS UKC AND LOCAL COON CLUBS
FANTASTIC JOB!!!!!!

Scott you are absolutley right. it was without doubt, the best "large" hunt i have ever attended. The task that was put before the UKC staff was almost to large to believe, but with hard work, dedication, and some outside help from the many clubs around the area, it was pulled off, and done very professionally. We as hunters should be thankful that there are people working for us, like they have at the UKC. It would have been very easy indeed, to say...lets just hunt the 300 dogs per night, and to heck with the other 538. Not them, they worked very hard, and believe me i know, from having contact with them in the two weeks before the Oaks, to ensure that every dog got to hunt, and they all did. Also, I bet Mr. Cavanugh and Mr. Therfell are very tired. They were great as the judges, and yes it does say a lot that they felt they needed to judge such a special show. THANK-YOU to them. I believe that just shows the one more example of the dedication the UKC employees have for our sport, starting at the very top, and running throuugh the staff. JOB WELL DONE UKC.!! It would be nice if we thought about what we were saying before we post all the negative trash. Oh yea....if the UKC is so bad in their works, why is they hunt more dogs per year than any othe registry, and the big question: why do you come? To have fun? Or to complain? I know what my answer is, and it is to have fun, which we did.

Couldn't have said it better! I had a blast and I didn't win my cast either...Had to drive 4 hours round trip to hunt and still had fun doing it...It's all part of it, that's what makes it great! A big Thank-You goes to UKC for puttin' on this event!

Congratulations Mr. Engle I don’t know how many people noticed that you missed winning the title by 50 points.

100% Scott..........The staff at UKC did an OUTSTANDING JOB. Putting on a hunt of this size takes lots and lots of planning more than everyone might think. Yes, some have to drive some distance to hunt, but you can not hunt 300 plus dogs all in a seventy five mile radius of the fairgrounds!!! I personnally had a great time serving as Master of Hounds at the Marion Club, they too did a super fine job and very nice people in their club. Thanks again UKC for a very enjoyable time at the OAKS. Alan Kalal

To me "The Oaks" is the MardiGras of coonhunting. I know the Grand American is a huge hunt as well, but is rather far for northerners to travel to. What with the PKC Labor Day Classic being held not too far away, and Kenton normally being held the same weekend, (but not this year), I know a lot of folks plan their vacations around visiting some or all three of these venues, but The Oaks is by far the biggest and best for pure coonhunting and a gathering of the "coonhunting clan". To see all those stud dogs, puppies and merchandise for sale, and the bench show, and the nite hunts, and all the different hunters, is well worth the annual pilgrimage to Richmond. I thought for an event of this magnitude, it was extremely well run and would not hesitate to recommend that people go to it, to either show, hunt, buy stuff, visit, or all of these.
