Early morning hunt 4-18-09

I thought it would be nice for change too get up early too hit the woods. I set the alarm for 3:00 a.m. and got to the 1st. drop at 3:45 cut Ozzy loose he struck about a 100 yards in and fail treed about 350 yds. down the creek, He had the meat....Got to the 2nd. drop he struck in at 160 yds. ran 668 yds. and fail treed,he had the meat. I was at the truck heading home at 5:45 a.m. I really enjoyed getting up early and hunting. It was light wind and about 55 degrees. I think I'll start doing the early morning hunts more often. Ozzy turned 10-months old Tues... Can you find Ricky in the 1st. Pic. ? Enjoy the pics.!!!!

Congrats !!!!

Congrats. To David Beebe on a 4th. place win last night at Perry Okla. Blk & Tan event. He was hunting { Walker } Ch. Okiesawyers' Queen of Diamonds. Sounds like she is back on the road to recovery David, after the lay up of having pups..

COOL!

Found first coon in tree(and HOUND in tree...LOL) Nice pix. SOunds like a great time to hunt. Made me think of the old days and getting up early on weekends to braid the horses and leave for a horseshow. There is something about that time of day that is Different. Most people don't get outside then... when the animals are all stirring. LOVE the woods at night. I think in some ways the fact so few people coonhunt makes those night time woods that much more special...

Thanks for sharing! HappyHunting Heather

PS CONGRATS David Beebe!

Thanx

There's something about that time of morning , It's so quiet and everything is calm, makes me wish during the day is like that. Life would seem slower and easier... But if I hunt from dark till 3-4 a.m. I just want to caych my dogs and go home !!!! LOL I don't take the time to enjoy that time of morning too much then ... LOL
Thanks yall for the kind words !!!

Hunt

Yes it dryed out enough to make it to most of my spots. I was still kicking up mud in some low areas. The creek was running full I wouldn't have been able too cross it... I was very lucky he never treed on the other side of the creek... Plottchaser has your land dried up any ?
Hobo;
I was planning on hunting till the sun came up, but have you ever had that feeling that you might be pushing your luck.. LOL I thought I might better quit while I was ahead...LOL

It had...a little... until last night and today, went out around dusk for just a couple drops this evening, it was just sprinkling when I went out, then started pouring half way through the second drop when I was on my way into where the dogs had one treed. It was wet but it was fun!!

Plottchaser

You know all the big Comp. hunters say you have to hunt a dog in all types weather conditions to make a world champion coon dog. You are now on your way to have a wld champ. You have now tackled the rain part of the schooling... LOL We got rain again Saturday evening. Keep'em in the woods, we'll give you shout next week to see if your doing any good...

Im about 60 miles west of you at Waynoka. I do lots of morning hunting because of the job, and before long I will be doing it in hopes it will be cooler and them dang snakes aint as active as right after sun down. We will have to get together and hunt sometimes.

I sure wish we lived closer. I live between Noble & Trousdale and my favorite time to hunt is the morning just as you described and no one wants to go then. Its cool, quit and less traffic. Like the pictures. Trott.

Early

Trott;
I think we all no that the coons has laid down the tracks at 3:00 a.m. It's just hard for all of us to get out of bed a that time after a hard weeks work... LOL It was hard for me too get out of bed but if they said the Stripers was biting at that time I would be up and ready too go.. So I figured why not coon hunting.. LOL I would rather get up at that time than to stay out hunting till that time... I have got up for work at 5:00 a.m. or earlier for the past 10-yaers, so getting up don't bother me as much as some folks...
I wish you did live closer... good hunting and hope too see you at a hunt..

Hunt test at Hennessey Okla. May, 22nd.

Shelby

Old cowboy;
Give me a call, will meet up some where. Turkey creek where I hunt is getting grown up quick... I wish I knew of smaller creeks.. I hunt the HeLL hole of N.W. OKla. Terrible Turkey... And it's NASTY !!!!!

I really enjoy those early morning hunts. A lot of times I am heading back to the truck with the sun coming up. I used to go with my dad on sunday mornings when I was a kid.
