Dog won't bark
...trailing or treeing, he can bark, in the yard
I've been working with him lately, and he will trail and sit around the tree, circle it, stand on it a little, but he wont bark at all, not when he trails or trees, I think it might be because it's not a live coon, but i thought I'd check here, and if that's not the problem, if you know any training methods, or have an ideas on what to do, let me know.
P.S. some other dogs treed a coon, and i had it hanging before i skinned it, and he broke his cable, got the coon, and basically attacked the dead coon.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
...
my dog does the same thing...

Mine done the same thing as a pup but not the case anymore all dogs mature at different rates just let them come to there own.A dog that dont bark on track will show you more coons but I want to here the race to the tree.
Hes 4 years old........
I never got to work with him as a puppy, so here it goes...would it help to put him with a dog that will bark?
try trapping a coon and show it to him let him fight it in the cage it may excite him enough to bark at the coon then tie him back and release the coon and see if he barks on track if not i would try him in another day or 2 if he still doesn't bark he may possibly be a silent hound, although i have never seen a totaly silent hound they do exsist

thank you for the advice, I'll see if i can do that, if there's any other ideas, let me know, thank you
one thing me and the wife do is teach our pups to speech for treats when they are just a couple months old. that way when we work them at the tree and tell them to speak they know to bark.

My older female Plott won't bark at a caged coon or a hide. Even when I encourage her to "tell him"....she won't bark. It has to be loose and moving.
mine wont bark at a caged coon or anything like that. if you knock a coon out to her she will kill it an just stand an look like" ok its dead"

thanks for the help, i'll turn him loose with some others, and see what happens
years ago, I had a year and half old that wouldn't bark on the tree. Finally one night I got him up on the tree grabbed his old nuts and squeezed till he barked/yelped then petted him up real good. Not sure if that is what fixed him but he started treeing the next tree. lol

No Bark
I got a 4 month old pup (Timber Cutter x Taylors Cedar Creek Bee) we set a caged coon out other day and turned the pup (Dexter) loose. Dexter came around the house through that nose up like a kid wanting that pie in the window and then found Mr. Coon. He barked and bucked like a bull. I was amazed and impressed really thought he would have been scared of Mr. Coon maybe we got a goodin.
