Forced Breeding Cycles

I bought a 2 yr old female to breed and have had her about 11 months. She has never come into heat. Is there someway to make her come in??? Shots, vitamins, or something????

I'm sure there is something out there available to make a dog come in heat, but try this first.

When ever we have a femal we are wanting to breed but she has not come in heat for a while this is what we do.

Give her a good worming and switch dog feeds to a very high protien, high fat brand. Always works for us within about a month.

Don't know if it's chance or we just get in a hurry for them to come in, but it always has worked in the past.

My bluetick just came in (with the help of the redbone) at 14 months for the 1st time. The redbone has come & gone 3 since the bluetick arrived. Guess she just wasnt ready.

I HAVE NEVER USED IT BUT I ASKED MY VET THE SAME QUESTION HOW OR IS THERE AWAY TO MAKE THEM COME IN HEAT THIS IS WHAT HE TOLD ME WAS TO USE ESTERMATE FOR HIFFERS SAID THEY WOULD COME IN HEAT IN 2 DAYS THE ONLY SIDE AFECTS WOULD BE THAT IT WOULD SCREW UP HER NORMAL HEAT PATTERN IT WON'T HARM HER ANY OTHER WAY JUST CALL YOUR VET AND GET THE RIGHT DOSAGE FIRST!!!

ron i used to use estrumate or lutalyse alot on heifers. they are on a 30 day cycle .. give them the shot watch for heat.. breed the ones that show. and the ones that dont give another shot in 11 days they have to be at the right stage of cycle for it to work... so anyways i sure would like to hear from somebody that has used it on dogs..

Well, I have used Lutalyse on dogs......IF it dosent kill her it will make her deathly ill!!!!!

I dont know why people are always telling others on these boards to use that stuff on dogs!!!!!

Hey Josh, so is Ivomec but we sure use that don't we!

We purchased some Vit. tabs called plain and simple "Bitch Pills" I have always been amazed at how my Blue's just wouldn't cycle on schedule so I gave this a try. Within 2 weeks all were bred. I have 3 litters here now and 2 more on the way!!!!

I will look over the bottle and se who, what, where, and when and pas it along later.

Where did you acquire those vitamins at??? I am looking for something to bring my female in. I have talked to my vet and he STRONGLY disagreed with using ESTERMATE, LUTALYSE and a few other products used to bring cattle into their heat cycles on my hounds.


What else has everyone tried???

Jason, I'm not sure I understand the analogy.... Lutalyse is quite a bit different than Ivomec.
A cow cycles every 21 days......not even CLOSE to a dogs cycle.

I am very serious about this though........If you care at all about your female stay away from lutalyse. I tried it years ago, it brought he in heat for about 3 weeks, and almost killed her. I ended up culling her because it messed her up so bad.

If a female has not came into heat, have you ever stopped to think that maybe it is because nature is saying the dog is not ready? It could be possible there are internal problems, tumors, or other factors. I would advise to let mother nature take its course. By attempting to artificially begin the heat cycle, it is possible to jeopardize the health of the female if you do get her bred. Give the dog more time and see what happens. Consult with a vet and have a thorough check first. The last thing you want is to spend a lot of money on stud fees, drugs and have the female abort.

i do notice if you have several dogs . if one comes in heat get the others in same pen or close as you can. if you want them to come in.. not 100% but works pretty good.

It took 3 cycles of my redbone to finally bring in my bluetick at 14 months. I really hope that they will be on the same schedule next time.

I must have misread your post. I thought after reading it that you were advising people not to use anything on the hounds that was intended for Cattle. No offense intended.
