Won't hunt
I got a 11 month old blue pup that will hardly leave the truck , but will track a caged Coon . Is she mature enough to hunt or am I just be impatient shes about ready to make me pull hair out .
Lead her into the woods and then cast her…find a log to sit on and sit awhile and don’t give her any attention…hopefully she will get bored and go hunting…
If you have access to a straight coonhound that should help her if she has it in her to do so…

I've took her hunting with another dog . But didn't want to teach her bad habits because he got to acting funny . I don't know if I'm trying to push her to quick or not .
If you have anyplace to let her run loose it would most likely help. Would have been better for her to run loose earlier in her life. It might help.

Run loose x2.......got a 4 mth old pup that went to the woods 1st time ... Stayed w/the big dog for 3 separate dumps.
2ed time it stayed again, this time opening up.....can't beat running loose at nite makes training heck of a lot easier.

Get gone
If you can and have the place to let em run loose at h is good but everyone don’t have that luxury an I’m one of those who don’t so I just took them out and let them run as much as possible during the day then put em with a old dog and let em go if they don’t go at first literally act like they aren’t even there they will go if they don’t put em up or back in the box they will eventually figure out I need to go or I don’t get cut loose

That's not happening
There is no doubt…having the pup run lose without any worries is the best option…but not many of us can do this…
As a young man my dogs didn’t know a leash, kennel and no stake outs with chains…I stepped out of the house and called the dogs and we went hunting…
These days my house sits on two lots and my backyard has a 6 ft privacy fence…during feeding time I let them run loose in the back yard otherwise they are in their kennels…
During feeding and washing down the dogs and pups are loose to run in the backyard…it doesn’t look like I have a training system but during these times I follow a certain way and I will explain why…just personal theories…
I turn a few dogs out at a time and at random I call a dog to me and pet them for a little bit and then I quickly go about my business…and they go about their business as well…I do it this way because while I want my dogs to come when called I also want my dogs to move on about their business…I don’t want them hanging out with me because when I take them to the woods I don’t want them hanging out with me…they need to be independent to a certain extent…it’s not training just doing the right things as I go about my business…
I do the pups the same way but allow them more outings to figure things out and to explore…again I don’t want them to ever think it is more fun for them to be with me…I want them to acknowledge my presence and come when called…but I also want them to go play and explore…
The pups…sometimes when I call them I simulate calling them out of the woods and they come running hard as I pet them up…they come running hard because they are getting a treat…usually left over pieces of chicken or beef…after a few minutes I go about my business and they do the same as well…
As I have said before…when taking your pup to the woods…take the pup from kennel to the dog box…and then keep the pup on leash until you are at the location you want the pup to start…cast the pup and hopefully the pup will go on it’s own…don’t feed the pup prior to taking it to the woods…your dog is a predator…predators hunt when they get hungry…you hang out in the woods and your dog will get bored and go hunting if she has it in her to do this…there are other things she should already know at her age…she should know what a coon is and want to hunt a coon…otherwise she doesn’t have a reason to want to hunt…
Not all dogs will hunt or cast as we like no matter what we do…but they will have a better chance of making it if we do our part…
Bottom line…everything we do with our dogs should have a logical reason or explanation as to why we follow a certain system…

Won’t Hunt
There could be many different reasons as to why the dog won’t hunt…once we know and understand some of the probable causes we can be careful not to make those mistakes…sometimes the pup can learn a behavior because we are focusing on it’s safety and the pup is learning and understanding something totally different…
If the pup is taken for daily walks on leash…we are thinking the pup needs exercise and this is a good thing…but the pup might be learning that it is supposed to stay close…
We turn the pup loose to run and exercise but we keep a close eye on the pup because of the traffic close by…so we constantly call the pup back keeping it close to us for that reason and other safety reasons as well…the pup doesn’t realize we do this for its safety…the pup is learning that it is supposed to stay close…
Instead take the pup to a safe place and when the pup is full of energy because he goes straight from kennel to the woods and turn it loose in that safe environment and let it run…encourage the pup to go…sit around if needed and the pup will get bored and go…but chances are the pups instincts are driving and the pup just goes and makes a good round…and we can see the potential…
A while back I went to see a friend out in the country who had pups…when I got there we went to see the pups and I could see they were well socialized…he turned those 8 week old pups out and they all left out to play and explore as he cleaned the pen…they went out a ways and were sniffing around…one of the eight pups left out maybe twice as far or more…
I said this one is going be ranging out for sure as a hunting dog and my friend says…sometimes I have to go find her…she was built right and all but I politely turned her down thinking it was one of his favorites to keep…
