Garmin rule ??

All dogs struck in dogs A and B are in the timber can be heard but are in there pretty good to where if you walk away to far they'll be out of hearing...handlers of dogs C and D look at there garmins and say there dogs are getting on a road 500 yards behind the cast...what do you do?

The last 3 hunts I've been in I've had this happen...I believe I know how to handle this situation but wanna see what the official ruling is because I don't believe to many people know the right way to handle it...

Rule 7a, Call time out, got an hour to catch dogs and meet up. Delete the strike points for dogs struck.

Posted by Autumn Clements on 09-12-2016 01:41 PM:

Dogs C & D are not struck or heard right? Only can see on garmin where they are. So either you walk closer to the 2 dogs struck or would have to agree as a cast to call time because of what you can see on the garmin

Says "All dogs struck in"

It sounds like the cast is roughly half way between Dogs A&B and dogs C&D so that is where they stay unless the struck dogs are getting out of hearing, then you would tighten upon the struck dogs. As for the ones towards the road, the handlers can withdraw and retrieve their dogs if they so chose.

As to my understanding of the rules you can not use a Garmin to make any decisions in a cast. If dogs C and D choose to withdraw then that is their option.

Exactly how I believe this to be....

Near road

Just shock them and bring them back in, right Yadkintar?
Just joking. I would withdraw my hound first then get them back.

In a real hunt, how long does it take to ask for a cast vote to call time out and then proceed with the vote? If you are truly worried about your dog, you arent waiting for all that, you're withdrawn and gone. And unless you are faster than a speeding bullet, you're too late anyway.

In the real world, most of these "stop the hunt, my dogs on the road!" situations are nothing more than an attempt to stop the hunt before those other two get wooded whilst my crap eater is running the road. That's probably why UKC decided to require a cast vote to call time.

Seems to be happening more and more...

I feel that unless I hear the dog on a road than i don't no that it's on the road....I don't really care what your garmin says! Just like everything else a garmin is not to be used to determine anything in a hunt

If you can still judge all dogs you can't call timeout unless majority agree

Posted by DeerSlyer86 on 09-12-2016 04:40 PM:

I agree you shouldn't be allowed to call Time Out, but what happens if let's say Dog A is in there alone running a track & B,C,D are over here playing along the road. How is fair that the rest of the cast will call time out just so you can't get trees on their dogs. I believe in this case a man should have to withdraw and Timeout shouldn't even be an option

OK why don't these rules fall into play?

7. TIME OUTS
Judge or majority of cast if hunting Judge is used,
may call time out in accordance with the following:

(a) When dogs are getting on highway, trail onto
posted land or trail into a place where there is
danger to dogs or hunters.

(e) When dog(s) are trailing out of hearing in different
directions.

Todd I believe you are missing the part about the majority of the cast with a hunting judge. 2-2 wouldn't be a majority, therefore as Jim stated, withdraw and go get your dog if you want, if not you run the risk of loosing it. In the other option of 3 dogs on road, and one in other direction, a 3-1 vote could cause time to be called. Bad break for the one handler, but it can and does happen.

As is the case in most all non-hunting judge cast, he/she needs not vote to call time if they desire, but I would surely hope they use good sound judgement before doing so. Also would hope that all handlers are fair to each other in such a situation, and do the right thing!
