Chain vs kennel
I'll be getting my pup in about 5 weeks or so and while he's young I'm going to keep him in a pen. My question is what do y'all prefer a chain( which can give him a lot of room and not feel confined) or an above ground kennel. I searched on here and found some pics and info on the kennels. I know the above ground kennel helps with worms and keeps them bry but will it also help keep them from wanting to jump up on everything? If I decide to go with the kennel I could have it built in time for when I get him but what size and floor material do y'all recommend?
Thanks
Chain
I find most seem to be much more happier chained out as being in a kennel

My pups run free with a beagle until they start treeing on their own. They are then chained. The chain teaches them to behave and not to fear their surroundings. They are chained until they are done hunting their first hide season. While on the chain they also develop a better muscle tone. Once their next spring season starts they will live their rest of their lives in a raised kennel. The kennel is a welded kennel thats 5X10.
A Chain is the easy way and all should be chain broke anyway. Kennels are not for all dogs.Ive got a female and some males that gets out of the average kennel even with a nice wire top. They chew out or break a way out..I never could understand guys having stand alone kennels with out wire tops. Mine climb right out within a few minutes ..I hate chain link kennels seams like they tear up easy..We have welded wire kennels that work best..I like above ground kennels for small pups with wire floors so much easyer keeping them clean..

Alright thanks for the input. I'm going to go with a chain. I know a guy that keeps a dog on a chain and use a t post for an anchor and puts a big ring on the end of the chain and slides it over the post. Should I put swivels on each end and in the middle?
Thanks again
The more swivels the better IMO,
Id rather have mine on a chain. But u also gotta think do you have bears and coyotes? Cause eventually theyl get to ur dog. Had a buddy use to keep his on a chain till he came home to a clawed up dog.

I think dogs are always happier tied out. But I also believe they are safer, quieter and healthier kenneled. Especially the females which is all I got

You only need a swivel at the collar. Rings on a t-post works but something will always be tangled at the post. A more trouble free solution is to fasten the chain to an anchor then bury it so just the chain is coming out of the ground.
Redbones love 💘 to be in the house 🏡.

I guy chain by the roll and make my own chains. Its a No 4 chain I use round Metal poles about 8 1/2 feet tall or longer. I use a fence post driver to driver it in to about 6ft above ground. The reason is I put a round ring over the post. A dog can bounce the ring 5 ft or so if they get real excited. I use heavy S hooks and a Big Snap on the end..Depending on the parts you buy they can last 6 months to a yr depending on the dog..To me swivels are a waste they don't last and are usually the weakest part of a chain...I also put a metal can on top of the post to keep water out and it makes noise...Dog chains Ive bought from stores are junk even at Autumn Oaks they just don't last. I hate the Brass snaps they use.Its the same as on dog leads they wear our so quick with a dog on them 24 hours a day..
