I have a 2 year old like this. How does your dog act? Does he act like he feels good with plenty of energy?
My dog literally looks like crap if I hunt him hard for a few weeks. When I do not hunt him hard, he still looks poor just not as bad. He has been on a steady stream of Extreme Athlete and Diamond Naturals chicken and rice mixed 50/50 for months now. I go down there every day and he most always has food left from previous day feeding. Clean bill of health too.
Mine feels great, wound super tight, and has much more energy than any dog I have ever owned. I have decided to quit worrying about it!
Oh yeah, the Extreme Athlete only feedings improved nothing so I just started mixing it.
I swear by and use self feeders so they can nibble what they want when they want. They get what they need and do not overeat. I also feed raw chicken legs during the winter to keep the protein on and keep them looking good.

Ive worked him time an time again an he has alot of energy an gobbles his food up like hes starving an would eat like that as long as u stand there an give it to him Hell eat it fast as it hits the fan
I understand, but hes still old. The humidity is high and the air temp is actually cooler than it feels. It takes more energy for an old dog to stay warm during these months. Make sure he has ample hay in the box. Make sure the winds not blowing on him. Make 110% hes comfortable in the box during all weather.

I haft to agree with dave. Selffeeders are the way to go. Plus it seems to me that they don't eat as much. At first they will but once they learn it's always there they slow down. My hound is 10& hunted 4 nites a week and is fat as a hippo. But he will go all nite.

Well mine has been like this since I bought him the guy I bought him from was having the same problem
boiled eggs
Thanks for all the suggestions an ideas hope it helps thanks again yall
Other Things to check
Definitely make sure he is worm free.
Check the feed you are using...look at his stool and see if it appears to be a large diameter for the size of the dog or if the dog goes and the amount seems excessive but still looks like a good solid stool. If so you may need to change feed and lower the protein and increase the fat intake, or use a feed that is close to an even mix of both.
Another big thing nobody has mentioned is water...IN THE WINTER ESPECIALLY THEY NEED LOTS OF IT!!! Dehydration occurs at cold temps faster then at hot temps for an animal that lives outside.
Last but not least is a trip to the vet...he may need to have his thyroid checked...I had one that was 14 and we did that to get his sperm count up for breeding, but it also helped his attitude and ability to hunt and keep going. He never acted like he was a 2year old again like I wanted...but I did get about 2 more years of enjoying the old man that I did not feel like would have otherwise!!
GOOD LUCK!!!
A lot of what has already been said is what I would suggest. I would try too adding a spoonful or two of plain yogurt to his feed, or adding a probiotic supplement to make sure he's digesting everything right. This is something I always do if I hit a dog hard with a wormer, to help get some of the good bacteria back in place.
My older dogs also get warm water over their food. They like it, can chew it better, and it makes me feel good giving it to them too.
