red or amber lights?

Always just used a light with no cover but talked to a few guys that said the bugs won't swarm around a red or amber light. Which is better red or amber? Also does it make any difference when shining a tree? I've never had much trouble finding coon without a red or amber cover but if the colored covers help I'd sure use one. Thanks.

To keep bugs away I use green. It seems to work better for me.

Amber works better for walking to me. I always start out using it on low shining trees in summer and yes it keeps bugs down.

prefer yeller for walking and keeping bugs off red for shining coon eyes

Thanks guys. I ordered a red one to try. Don't walk with my light on unless it's pitch black so mostly just for shining. Thanks again.

I melted one back yonder with a old 12v32 bulb. Didn't melt to the lens though.

Led lights don't put off heat. Bulb lights will melt the lens.

It depends on the led head being used. When driven hard leds put off a lot of heat! The small cap lights do not but the 3,5 and 6 led heads can get more than wram.

amber all the way just tried a new red led head makes coon close eyes must be like laser or something amber more like old wheat litecoon will look and bus stay away

If red makes coon close eyes, there is a million coon that have glowing red balls outside there eyeballs. Used red for 20t years, work great for finding coons. The red is not as good on the led lights as the old lights though in my opinion.

I got red, amber, blue and green now. I can't hardly see em with nothing but amber. I guess I've used that color so long its grown on me. The boss red cats eye ain't like no lens cover I ever saw though. That thing is real crisp and bright. Looked pretty good!
