strike points question

What do you do with a dog's strike points when it comes into a tree AFTER THE JUDGE ARRIVES and no coon is seen (obviously slick tree)?

I know that this is the answer always given on this forum. I guess that my question now is where do I find the answer from UKC? Is it in the advisor? Or is it just common sense? I don't find a clear answer on the back of the scorecard.

5. CIRCLED AND DELETED POINTS

Circle points:

(b) No dog to receive minus points for coming into tree after Judge arrives unless a coon is seen and the dogs treeing are awarded plus points.

The rule doesn't actually say to circle them, but why else is this situation listed under Circle Points?

From another thread I think what they're getting at is; when it involves a dog who is shut out on strike.

The dogs strike points are circled as suggested per 5(b).

However, in the case of a dog who is shut out on that specific tree it doesn't have any strike points to circle because they "became" automatically deleted per 5(g) when it came in to that tree.

I could get into it further but for the sake of not confusing anyone I'll leave this as per the question asked. (after the judge arrived)

I appreciate the clarification. I've seen it done both ways on real cast and I've seen MOH's argue about it also.

As I said on the other thread , it makes more sense to delete instead of rewarding a dog with circle points on a slick tree , but this is the final word on it..

anytime a dog comes into the cast its -

Thanks for clearing this one up, it's troubled me for some time now. As stated in the other recent thread on this subject, I think that most of the time the confusion stems from the word shutout.

The term shutout is only used when referring to strike points.

A tree that is closed is referring to tree points.
A tree that is shut out on is referring to strike points.

If these statements are correct, then I've got it cleared up in my mind. Thanks again to all who helped.

Blueticking:it, are you pulling my leg, or did you not read Allen's reply?

On this one (dog carrying strike points, coming in after the judge arrives), is circle strike points.

If the cast is busy scoring a tree and the dog walks up , its circled not minus ( if no coon is seen) . The end ! LOL

you guys have argued 500 pg on what
to do with a slick treeing dog and we still
havent shoot the 1st bullet

i would say they are deleted.

they did nothing to have points scored, therefore no circle.

Brooke , I would agree with you , BUT that is not how it is scored in UKC. Scroll back up and read Allen's responce from UKC...

If you delete you are doing it wrong.

In most cases yes. But not when the cast is already at a tree to score it and no coon is seen in the tree. Rule 5(b)
