How To Put Some Weight Back On My Female ...

MY FEMALE HAD HER PUPS 2 WKS AGO. AND HER WEIGHT HAS FELL OFF BIG TIME. I HAVE UPED HER FEED TO 6 CUPS A DAY. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON HOW TO GET HER BACK TO LOOKING GOOD..THANK YOU...

Feed her a quality feed if your not. Ive used red cell with good results when ive whelped pups with the gyp eating a cheap food but i learned the easy way is to spend the money and get a better feed and ive never had one lose much weight after having pups.

HAS SHE BEEN WORMED SINCE THE PUPS WERE BORN?

costco has a decent brand called Kirklands.

Feed a better food and she will perk up fast!

Also you can add Satin Balls. google it and you will get MANY recipes.

I have found that a good quality feed, with canned meat and a milk energizer (for calves & dogs) that can be found at fleet farm just sprinkle it over her feed. I use it in the winter time to add fat. Plus a good worming You can also add a little bit of cottage cheese for calcium and a raw egg.

MAKE SURE SHE IS WORMED OUT AND FEED HER WHAT YOU ARE I WOULD ADD KID REPLACEMENT TO HER FOOD. IT HAS A LOT OF GOOD MINERALS AND VITIAMNS IN IT ALSO HAS ALOT OF FAT AND PROTEN.LETS TURNM LOOSE......

If her pups are 2 weeks old pups and mama need to be wormed.I feed my nursing females Southern States 24/20 free choice out of an automatic dog feeder and they really hold condition.
IMO you need a better quality dog food and feed more of it.

THIS WORKS OR ME

1. Worm her - Panacur 5 days in a row
2. Unlimited access to dry food (use a feeder)
3.Add 1 can of dogfood to about 2 1/2 - 3 cups of dry food along with half a cup of Purina Kid Milk replacer. Mix it all up thoroughly.
I use a "mushy" type canned food such as O'l' Roy Meaty Loaf rather than canned food with chunks because it coats the dry food better and helps to make a milk gravy. I just have one dog that needs this to help keep more weight on her - it works.

I have wormed her,and I have been feeding her purina pro plan. She has been getting 6 cups a day.I guess the pups just have her dragged down. I will try the can feed and powder milk..

I also had a female who recently had pups and the weight feel off as it always does. I gave her plenty of dry food with the milk replacer powder mixed in like the others have said. Didn't take long and she was looking a lot better.

Watch the protein levels from the Purina Pro Plan. Overloading the kidneys with protein can cause the thyroid to malfunction which will cause weight loss and kidney damage. Try using the Purina Dog Chow instead with a little supplement. But remember that she just had puppies and may need to readjust her feedings. Also more protein is better for hard hunting hounds for energy and stamina.
