I use Pop bottle caps, like from a 2-liter of coke. Stand the pup on the bench and then place the caps, hollow side down, under his pads. They really help.

I'm lucky in the fact that my girls have pretty good feet and stand on their toes without much coersion. The guy and his family that trained my first two bench dogs for me gave me a couple tricks to use to keep them on their toes up front though-and through trial and error I've figured out some ways as well. They taught me to pick the dog's front end up with one hand right under his chest and set him down with his legs straight under him. Once his feet are down, pinch his toes together. Then, I figured out that if I pinch my dogs in the area at the bottom of the front of their chest they'll get up on their toes in front...plus it seems to help with their head position as well. I'm definitely no pro, but the more you work with your individual dog and try things out the more little tricks you'll learn. Good luck!

a lot depends on the age of the pup as well. does it have long toes/short toes? did the feet ever appear 'tight'? and size of pup affects feet as well. if they are in that 4mon or 8mon range, forget it - everything falls apart and you're ready to quit. but if they had it in them, they do come back.

can you post a pic so we can see?

If you can get a picture Cynthia can definitely help you out...she only spent a few minutes helping me with one of my dogs and I learned a LOT!

hes on the left he is a big 9 month old pup with big feet.

hes closest on this pic i dont have any of him on the bench but his feet are big. thats shaker his 4 year old bro next to him and hes one win away from grand show ch his feet are big but tight and he gets on his toes good. plus that pups momma is grand show ch also. this pup has two class wins so far if i could get his feet tightened up he could win alot more. this pup also wants to stand with his feet turned out.

9 months, still growing, will continue to change. if the parents have good feet there is a better chance his feet will improve. I have heard giving them vitamin c will help the feet, also you may want to give a little extra calcium tab. he is very young and big and you dont want him to get weak bones if he grows too fast.

practice, make sure he is not afraid of the bench. it looks like his feet are a little wide, so you may have to pinch the toes together as your setting his legs. good luck

i am working with a pup that is out of diamond ridge king of diamonds and another very good show quality female.. his conformation is good and he's real big and hound.. he is 7 months old and i know when they are pups their feet go a little goofy but they come back over time in some cases.. my question is.. he has a long middle toe on both feet with makes it difficult to get him to stay still and to stay on his toes cause he gets real lazy.. he also has a little bit of bowing out in his front leg.. how can i keep him on them front feet real good and is there any way his leg will straighten out over time? thanks

Like Cynthia said - pups especially males grow and fill out over a span of about 2 to 2-1/2 years..... if he is big give him the Vitamin C - I have always used it with my pups and it is supossed to help with the growth development and strength of the bones and cartlidge also.

The other key is to WORK and WORK and WORK with them while they are puppies.... Somethings go away and some do not but do not give up...
