Slick treeing or Squirrels????
Just wondering what folks think about this. I've got a female that is nearly silent on track. She's treed several coons and had the meat. She's treed several times on BIG leafy trees that I couldn't find the coon. And then she has treed some where I feel pretty certain she did not have the coon.
Recently we started hunting her on squirrels. I didn't even know if she would be interested, but she took to it immediately. I figured that she wouldn't be very accurate because of my experience on coons. Fact is, she has been very accurate on squirrels. So, here's what I'm wondering. Are some of those trees that I felt certain where slick actually night time squirrels or flying squirrels? What do you all think?
Yep, I think I have treed a couple squirrels here lately. Seems to be on those real early drops and just bam treed. Seems to be on a big Oak tree every time.
congrats, you got yourself a bonafide squirrel dog.

treeing
I have a female that does the same thing. She will tree just as hard on both. Meaning ones that do have a coon and ones that dont. Even show you where he went up. But to me being I want her to tree coons. She is slick treeing. This is not in your case its just mine. I'm going to start acting as if she is slick treeing. She and I are going to have hard talks under these trees.

One way to tell would be to take her at night and when she comes treed and you dont find anything cut her back off and if she goes just a little ways and trees again shes probably treein squirrels, I could always tell when mine didnt run any track and just fell treed she was smellin squirrels, but being that yours is tight or silent on the ground anyway its hard to tell, this is the worst time of the year because the acorns are fallin and the squirrells are workin hard like beavers now and dogs can smell em everywhere...
Probably treeing coon but owls are swooping in and carrying them off before you get there. At least that's my excuse.
