Kennel Floor???

I recently built a new kennel, and I put rock dust in it. The rock dust makes a good floor, especially when it is packed down. The down side is, dogs like to dig in rock dust. I was wondering if anyone has used something that works better than rock dust. I have thought about concrete, but it might be spring of the year before I could get a truck down to the kennels. Thanks for any input, or help that you can offer!!!!

Some of my kennels have treated plywood. It works good.

I have heard that stepping stones work well maybe better than concrete but I don't know I don't have either.

I’ve had dirt, wood and concrete. I definetly prefer the concrete.

River sand works great if not concrete

Mr.Edwards

My experience with treated wood is not good. I would suggest you google chemicals used. And also about using for pets. Just my opinion based on my ordeal with week old calves. My dogs are on dirt.

Mr. Edwards. I have a 18 month old female out of Mr Blue and PR Mayberry Blue Fern that you owned at the time of breeding. What kind of dog was or is she? Thanks.

Fern was a nice dog. I liked her a lot. She had a good mouth, was a good tree dog, worked a cold track, and was pretty accurate. She missed occasionally, but was not a slick treeing idiot. She came from a real good cross. She is dead now, so there won't be any more pups from her. I have a littermate sister to your dog. How is your dog doing?

I got her from John Hill and when I got her she hadn’t been fooled with much. I have had her out but don’t have the time to put into her that she needs. She will hunt out good by herself or with company she just needs time in the woods and meat shot out to her and I think she could be a good one. I am selling her due to lack of time to put into her and my son has a couple of pups that a ready to start. Do you know anyone that would be interested in a good prospect?

Aluminum

Lock dry aluminum decking its a little pricey but really nice. It will not hold urine smell like concrete. Sealed concrete does good but over time it will hold the smell

Stick with the rock dust just dig it down put cheap stock panels under it compact it again when the hit wire they will quit digging may take a time or two of fixing the holes but it works

I have concrete now, but I did have round pea gravel. And I prefer the round pea gravel. Get some livestock wire panels and line the floor, put pea gravel on top. The wire panels prevent the dog from digging out. And clean up is simple, use a manure fork to get the solids out. Once a month spread like and rinse the gravel with hose.
