Bark collar on pup

I just got a pup that likes to bark occasionally. I don't want to whip on him but I do have a bark collar. He is only 4 months old and I don't want to ruin him by making him think he can't bark at all. I also thought about the ultrasonic bark control but haven't read many positive reviews. Anyone ever use a bark collar on a pup that young with positive results? Thanks.

I absolutely ruined a good cold sweat female with one ! She was a beautiful loud an proud type ! Yes I stopped the kennel harken ,however she wouldn't bark in the woods either , you could tree coons with her every night just had to use a garmin. I gave her away to a guy ,who let her run loose, she began treeing but you could never put a tracking collar on her . my suggestion is the bark control system that sprays high pressure water at a harken dog, last time I seen them advertised was in lion country supply.

I have used bark collars for a long time. I really like them. I wouldn't put one on a pup that young. I would wait till its at least 6 months old.

Sooner you start with discipline correction the quicker you can nip it in the budd.I have put a bark collar and a good butt whippin on pups at 3 months of age...AT LOW INTENSITY ..WITH GOOD RESULTS....When raising a litter I feed all pups together and once the dominant pup starts to show himself about fighting the others I will tear its tail up with a light switch .Unwanted barkin is no different...Discipline at such a young age will also show you if a pup has any kind of brain at all... The basic commands all my pups learn first is there name ,come,hush,and no...JMO

I would use the least amount of intensity possible but you just never know how each one will react and the results you will get.

I live in town and can't have a barking dog for any reason. They don't bark or they don't stay period! I use a bark collar but then take them to places were they can do some barking, just turn the collar off or put tracking collar on them. If they have any sense they soon learn they can't bark at home.

The thing about a bark collar is that those two prongs on the bark collar feel exactly the same as those two prongs on the GPS collar. No way I'm using a bark collar on a pup. I have, I learned , and I won't anymore.
There is not a single detrimental point to spanking a pup anymore than there is to spanking a child.

the younger the pup the easier it is to break them from what you are breaking for , when i break a pup from barking i spray them in the face with water when they bark and all need to start is a mister bottle and the only time i use a bark collar is on hard heads or dogs that were never broke to not bark ..

I will probably give him a little switching and hopefully he has enough sense to get the point. I am a little leery of using bark collars on older dogs even though I have had success with them but that is why I wanted some more opinions and reviews on the pup situation. Thanks.

A very few pups will break from a switch an most times will start barking every breath when they see you coming and the end result they get skittish if they are hard to break.

I would not use a bark collar

I used them for years. Never on a pup. Until lately and if your dog is
smart they will learn quickly the collar means stop barking. And it did. Fast forward 12 mo. Dog is 17 mo. Old never hunted with a shocker on him no need the perfect pup. HANDLED NO POSSUMS EVER. NO BAD TRACKS.Then in full moon in Dec. He ran a bad track I think a fox. So next night put tracker and shocker on him. Now I have not had bark collar on the dog in 6 months! .well he took off and appear to be runing a track not barking went 600 yard tree switch shows treed. No barks walked in to tree dog standing on tree not barking moaning but no barks I reached down undone the shocker. And BANG WENT TO TREEING HIS HEART OUT.so you see some dogs are,very very smart. The kind we want anyways. Since I can stop barking in kennel by just getting on them. And being consistent. I make each dog go in his or her house until I dump feed. If they are to dumb for simple commands I won't feed them very long.. don't chance it.just get a bucket of water set it by kennel if you tell them to hush and they don't give a bath! Most stop soon. Or at least pay attention to you. Lol

I've used bark collars on every pup I've ever owned.Most faired well and learnt what it meant.One of them recently was the best bred and best looking female possible.After wearing a bark collar off and one for a few months she was silent.I hunted and hunted that female.She absolutely would not bark on track of tree.She hunted hard and I could watch her tracking on the Garmin.I hunted her for a few months till I couldn't stand it no more.The pattern I've seen is the dogs that are mouthy at home are mouthy in the woods.I cant have barking dogs were I live.Ive learnt that a balanced combination of discipline works best.Jmo.Good luck.
