you should have done sold them months ago the market has crashed as of now . try tanning them and sell to the city folk at the flea market or something . or pack them up good and air tight and hold them till next year .

I can't imagine Alabama coon having fur worth anything since basically no winter like up north.

Hate to tell you, but they're not all the same. They're graded differently in the south than in the north. It's got to do with how prime they are, how full the coat is, color, size, ect. A southern coon is worth less on the dollar because they have no need to grow as thick of a coat due to milder winters. You can get on the NAFA website and they have a section that tells you how they grade them and shows a map as to where the most valuable pelts come from. The most valuable is the northwestern region, which is michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin. Places like that. Especially with coons being worth less there, it almost makes what you have not worth the time for someone to do unless they're fleshed, dried and stretched already.

There is a big, big difference in coon hides from region to region. A Florida coon and a Michigan coon are almost two different creatures when it comes to selling their hide. A big FL coon might be 18-20 pounds where in MI high 20's up into the 30's is not super uncommon. Also the thickness and quality of their fur is way different. No need to grow a big thick coat when the temps rarely get in the 30's, let alone below. Central Michigan had windchill of close to 50 below this year. You need a better winter coat at -50 than you do at +40.

The way the bottom has dropped out of the market you'll probably not find anyone to take them as a gift until next season, if then. Hopefully you can make some contact with a fur buyer during the off season so you can be ready for next season and you won't have to worry about it. You're still not going to get as much as a northern hide though.

let me get this correct, you found out theres a market on coon hides so you went and killed yourself a bunch without even figuring out what you planned on doing with them or who to sell them too? now you just want to get rid of them?
