Bark collars

How do you guys use them? All the time? I'm gonna get one and was considering using it on my 9 month old pup just during the daylight hours. Hopefully he can pick up when he can bark and when not to. Can the collar ruin/effect him when he hunts? Just concerned if I used it at night that he may not be able to determine the difference between it and my tracker.

New to using technology versus the way I was brought up.

I dont really like them myself. But i have used them on my 10 month old before and it didnt effect his hunting at all. Id take the bark collor off and put the ecollor on and it didnt bother him. He seemed to catch on pretty quick when to bark and when not to after a few whipins. Now my 6 month old is a differnt story. He wont bark as long as he has a collor on his neck take it off and he will shake the house with his bark. Whip him and he just barks at ya. Lol

Thanks for the reply. You mentions you pup not barking if he has a collar on. That's my fear. It's why I considered using it just during the daylight hours. I will be a pain but I'll live with it. It's kind of a catch 22. My brother female was going crazy on the chain the other night. He went out and she had caught a coon. We could complain, but it's nice to have the coon in our area.

I use bark collars and love them
I have 5 coon hounds ranging from 1 year to 8 years old. They wear them at day and night except when hunting of course. I dont have any problems with them not barking while hunting and I always have a Garmin tracking collar and the tri tronics exp collar on them. I use the Garmin bark limiter collar

No I didn't I change out the batteries every three months. If you get one let the dog wear it a few days before you turn it on. Some people like the dogtra bark limiter but I haven't tried it. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

I just dont like to make my dog were a collor day and night. With a lil disicpline
They learn pretty quick not to be out their barking. I use mine about half the time. I just about have my 6 month old broke. My 10 month old was a fool on the chain and now you dont hear him at all. I had the collor on him and it wore a spot in his neck. Thats why i quit leaveing it on day and night. I hunt every night so if he didnt have a bark collor on he had a ecollor on. After a couple beatings he quit barking.

First of all if you read the directions on the collar it plainly says to only leave the collar on for twelve hours at a time and you won't get those blisters or places on the dogs neck.
Second I can't believe anyone will get on here and say they beat scold whip or give their dog a switching. If some of those animal rights people were to read some the post I read on here somebody would be in trouble and it gives coon hunters a bad reputation.
Third some people aren't home enough to go outside and correct their dog and who wants to get up at 2 am go outside Some of us work for a living
As for me I'm not home much at all I'm traveling to conformation dog shows a lot I'm go to over a hundred in a year. I have to have full time kennel help to feed the dogs while I'm gone and travel with me.
Fourth I have proffesionally trained and handled obedience herding agility conformation dogs at all levels and never beat scold whip and switch a dog. Plus I have my personal dogs with various titles I have five coon hounds. That I love to go out and pleasure hunt with.

bark collars work great but u have to use common sense. I use them and slowly loosen the collars a little at a time. you can leave them on then without any problems and my dogs still stay quiet

Todd is 100% correct. Matter of fact I just started having a problem I haven't seen in 40 years. I have two females that are running loose on 4 acres and a few months ago I put a couple bark collars on them to stop them from treeing squirrels. That worked but now in the morning they are going out there and where the squirrels have sit on the ground and chewed on some pine cones they are digging and barking. Two days ago I put two Garmin Bark Limiters on them and I put them in the Auto mode. These are not the rechargeable ones as I want to see how long the batteries last and want to see how they work after replacing the batteries a few months down the line. Anyway no more barking and digging. The auto still lets the dog bark once or twice when they see me or something but not much after that. Yesterday I loosened the collars one notch and in a couple days if all is quiet I will loosen again. Couple times and they will have the collars on but not doing anything but reminding them not to bark and they will not be tight enough to hurt the dog in anyway. I will then turn them off at that point to save the batteries.
Only thing then is to make sure they don't pull them off and chew them up. lol

I never have used them and was just trying to get a little input. As far as reading the directions, I'll prob. read them multiple times.

Bruce, I've already asked you questions about my tracker, may end up with questions about the bark collar. Do you sell them? If so I'll get ahold of you.
