PROPLAN SHREDED CHICKEN AND RICE

Everyone is tired of dogfood post and I hate to even ask but, Who has fed this for any length of time and hunted hard? what do you think of it?

Posted by toejam on 03-11-2013 08:08 PM:

Used it for several years and I hunt 5-7 nights week, dogs held up good on it, little stool in kennels for easy clean up.

I feed all the shredded blend feeds. I think they are great. I like them better than the pro plan performance. The dogs really like it too. They look good and aren't hard to keep them that way. I highly recommend it.

Thanks guys, that is what I wanted to hear from someone who hunts hard. Too many people post about dogfeed that only hunt a night or two a week. If you don't hunt at least 5 nights a week, you don't have a clue if the feed you are feeding is good or not. I just switched to this and hope it will work.

Pro Plan will get the job done better than most but it is not cheap. I fed it when I hunted 4-6 nights a week but I don't hunt enough now to need to feed it.

I can't count the number of times my dogs got complimented for how good they looked or asked what I was feeding when I fed Pro Plan. I preferred the Performance Blend over the Shredded Blend but have fed both and they are both good.

There is no dog in this country that needs that kind of protein and fat content that pro plan has in it. Just ask your vet. If you want to blow out there kidneys and other health issues keep feeding it. I do feed purina dog food but I learned a very valuable lesson on high protein and fat levels. Keep your dog worm free and you can feed them a lower fat and protein dog food.

This is a complete myth. Dogs that have problems with kidney failure etc.. Will have another condition that exacerbates the situation. Healthy dogs can handle that level of protein and fat easily and if you have a big hunting dog that gets hunted hard they need it!!!!

Pro Plan Shredded Blend is just a 26% protein 16% fat feed. Not as high as most of the cheaper feeds.

I believe he is referring to Pro Plan Performance, which also has the shredded nuggets in it but is just labeled "lamb and rice" or "chicken and rice".

Posted by Bobby Reynolds on 03-12-2013 06:14 AM:

What I am feeding is 26/16. I hunt at least 5 nights a week and closer to 7. If those numbers will hurt my dog then he should already be damaged from what I fed him before.

Posted by Brian Gray on 03-12-2013 01:12 PM:

I didn't say it would hurt all dogs, I just know what my vet told me I have faith in the vet I use because I myself am not a vet and I know the problems I have had in the past. I will continue to feed the feed I choose and every one else can feed what they choose. I have had a few hard hunting dogs and they never required that kind of protein or fat and they where hunted hard.
