HTX Hunts Rock

Who has tried them ? We have had 3 and had a ball at each one. If your club needs a kick start this is a good way to do it. Give them a try, they are well worth the time.

we had our first one at our club and everyone really enjoyed it. we had two out of five dogs pass. the one thing that i think will have to happen is that people that come will have to sometimes stay and serve as an inspector on a late round

Please elaborate! For now, we are thinking we can get 5 on the place I hunt with not much problem. It's 10,000 acres, Then, would we have to back to the Club? I don't know why? Or just meet back up at the crossroads. We just swap over and do another 5 dogs from swapping inspectors right there on the spot. Not ever having inspecting each other's dog. But you have experience , so start at 8pm say , do the hour , gather up on site , swap around inspectors and gone again . In theory sounds like ten dogs could get done at least by 11PM and everybody ready to go home. Am I missing something? Not counting stupid stuff like go yander dawgs and stuff.?

HTX hunts are great all the way around but what I like most is how well they work for introducing the young ones or the pleasure hunters that have never hunted in nite hunts to competition hunting in a less competative enviroment at first. The HTX title is not as easy you would expect and the hunters that put HTX titles on thier dogs for the most part are not paying $10 to fake it they want to be proud of the title so they earn it.We have about half to fail at our club but I'm one of the lucky ones in that the coonhunters in my area are an honorable bunch and its contagious we teach by example most hunters around us would be too embarrassed to fib on a HTX hunt.It really wouldn't make a difference who inspected who at our club cause you can trust everybody to do it right .Yes this title can be obtained dishonestly but the majority will elect to earn it so they can feel the pride that goes with doing it right opposed to the shame of faking it.

I believe all that , I was just wondering why there would be Late rounds if you did not have to waste time going back to the club is all.

Try having more HTX tests if you are having too many hunters for your inspectors that you have alot of late rounds the hunters become inspectors for the other hunters its a win -win situation for the club and hunters as club membership increases

We had 8dogs for the first, 8 for the second and 10 for the third. Some club members did hunt but some were inspectors for non club members. We didn't try to hunt 2 dogs per couple just because of the time factor, dropping a dog at 9pm and just hunting a hour still made is 11 or midnight wrapping things up..
As for the club, we made some money off the hunt and the kitchen, and also picked up several new members.

Man....it does my heart good to read the comments in this thread. That program is my baby. It is accomplishing exactly what I thought (hoped) it would. And it's just getting started. I'm really excited about the future of HTX events. I think it's going to be good for coonhunting.

l.lyle - I think what you are suggesting for inspector turn around would work great.

David Gardin - Allen tells me your club just picked up five new members as a result of the hunt tests and that your kitchen is making as much during a hunt test as it does for your nite hunts. That is awesome.

l.lyle, That's what we did. We were about 20 miles from club house and 4 handlers and 4 dogs. We were about 4 miles apart to hunt. First group hunted and we met half way in between and switched inspectors and we all done in less then 3 hour. Worked great.

I have been in a few. I enjoy them. We failed more than pass. Just did not find coon. Need one more pass. I will attend some more.

TODD

THIS IS ONE OF THE HARDEST HUNTS I HAVE EVER PUT ON TRYING TO KEEP THE INSPECTORS MIXED UP WE HAD OUR FIRST HTX 1 FINISH AND YES THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS TO EVER COME TO THE COON HOUND WORLD I PUT THE HUNTER GARMIN COLLAR IN MY GPS AND WHEN WE GOT BACK TO THE CLUBHOUSE THE OTHER GUY GOT A KICK OUT OF HOW THE DOG WORKED A TRACK WE HAD 8 THE FIRST HUNT 9 THE SECOND AND10 THE THIRD WE HAD 3 OR 4 MORE CLUB MEMBERS THAT WOULD HAVE HUNTED IF WE WOULD HAVE INSPECTORS .

Along kind of the same lines, say you had five handy spots close by and 8 dogs show up to hunt. Plenty of inspectors. First five dogs go hunting. two of them get a pass. Only three dogs left but 5 places to hunt and the two dogs that got a pass want to see if they can get another pass. Would that be possible in the same night? I mean if a guy was real confident he was going to get a pass and wanted to try on the second round he could even pay the entry early. Or for that matter, a dog that did not get a pass but wants to try again. Would that be possible? I mean it's only an hour hunt, dogs should not be give out LOL.
