coon

The night champion cast I guided had 975 It was Daniel Wilson's dog. He had another treed , time was up, didn't count. As we came back to the club I saw 4 more on the road in a 4 mile stretch. The kit coon are starting to get down, can't believe how big they are already. We had some distemper in our area this winter, lost some, seem to still have alot. Our next hunt is around May 19th

Indiana coon!!

It does seem that way but most will think i'm crazy but the weather has alot to do with the way the coon move wether it's a riseing or fallen beremetric pressure , change of tides , wether it's a full moon or no moon. Now I have set game cams at a buddies house just to get an idea of when the coons are moveing and here in south central indiana the coons have been moveing 2hrs before dark and again between 1:00 am to daylight. So from about 5:00 pm to 9:30pm is a good time to run the hounds or from 1:00 am to 7:00 am is another good time to be in the woods hunting. alot of people might not be able to get out there when the coons are moveing due to work but if you really want to put your hound in on some coons then you have to get out there when they are movieing.

Last 2 casts I've been on we have scored on at least 7 coons or more! Tim was my guide last Saturday and we had a darn good hunt , coon were everywhere!

I know for fact the coon population is down in some areas. They might not move while we are hunting because of the weather etc... but its April. If they are there they are gonna come out and the sign just isn't there. I was hunting down at Ricklefs house few weeks ago and he said he's noticed his coon population way down.

I'm guessing that there is a pattern of good years and bad years ... kind of like that video of the millions and millions of mice all over Australia a number of years ago and the year before that the numbers were down.... just not quite as extreme. Just natures way of regulating populations and the way its probably been since long before you were a twinkle in your .

I got the pleasure of hunting in Indiana my first time last year in November. We treed more after 3 am than any time of the night. You guys are blessed, I love the hunting and land up there.
