best dogs from indiana
you fellas are right....where are all the good dogs?howards tyson.. indiana jones were all dogs from wis!!!! born and raised by mike hanson...they came out of a female called warriors blue arrow..also you forgot about suzy which is a littermate to tyson and jones who made it to the world finals and couldn't go because of my job restrictions...tyson was bought as trained dog from wis.arrow also produced the 1st duall gr out of swamp rooster.she helped put redman and swamp rooster on the map...
this is the plain truth like it or not. wi bred and raised.arrow was
boyd little joes duplicate in a female version...same color same smile.i current have a double bred version but i no longer competition hunt and he is the last of the line.our english had a lasting hold on wis for 25 years..lockdown king was undefeated as a gr nt and
pkc comp in wis.he went from nothing to dual gr in 7 months and undefeated 3 years in a row at english days but we couldn't pay
enough for a good guide to win it all...enough said

tyson was never hunted with many other dogs...he was mainly hunted by himself....barney was a good fella and he told me woody was a good dog...from day one every pup started when they were very little...i give bobby howard all the credit in the world for finishing a good started dog...i hunted him mostly by himself since he was 5 months old...the whole litter started very early but the females were more complete at an earlier age.i think suzy won her first hunt when she was 8 months old.the females would really take pressure...it was natural..arrow would
also take it very early in life...i wasn't trying to take anything away
from anyone...i raised a line of of excellent reproducing females but its always about the stud dog..i drove all over this country
looking a better dog to breed my females to.kentucky..miss..ect
sometimes i bred them sometimes i went home with my female in heat in the truck...i wish more guys would breed for the hunt instead of the papers..and your right a lot of good dogs come from indiana i have bought them and seen them..most hunters in
wis have lost touch what a really good dog is...i was more than
happy when i saw tyson on the cover of bloodlines.alot of english
breeders sure missed out on some good dogs and im happy that
someone else got some aggravation and enjoyment out of a good
reproducing female i took 20 plus years to create..good luck
Barneys son is hunting English dogs right now and he has one of the fastest dogs Ive ever seen. Ive never been an English fan but I started competition hunting against Barney when I was a young boy. He treated me great and always had a great coondog. His boy is the same way. Great kid with a great dog. If I was an English man Id get me some of what hes got. Fast to strike fast to tree.

i wish i was looking for a dog i might make the trip...i use whats left of my line for coyote hunting and i dont even coon hunt anymore..thanks for the thought.i got soured out by the hunts.
i was interviewed by ukc about being a breeder and they put
wyatt wrights name on my answers to thier questions..the girls
who did the interviews were so mad they quit..i once turned down
30,000 for a dog out of arrow...needless to say 3 wks before the
quarter finals he came down with blasto...coonhunting has been hard on me and my family...i put years promoting the sport, the kids and hunters rights.....only to be cheated by your peers.
when they took away the nonhunting judges it went downhill fast.that road is history....bench show judge...master of hounds...
honest compeditor.good luck hunting and remember if you cheat to win a hunt it will showup in your dogs eventually.

My old man ended up buying jones I was real young...we fixed the facebarking and to my rememberance jones was one of the finest hounds i unleashed...one of the most accurate fastest hounds...ya he was silent but he got by himself QUICK and had a coon! Would make dogs look foolish on a bad track! Ten minutes on any night was a long time for him to be looking up at a ringtail! Told my ol man now if jones was young now and i was nite hunting i could have went many places with that hound!

Ya, I liked ol'Blue, me and Joey used to time him, just to see how long it took him to get under a coon! You need to talk to Joey sometime,he hunted that dog a bunch, made him what he was.
Ol'Barney liked Tyson, he thought he was it, Bobby Howard traded a Ford truck for Tyson,Barney's wife drove that truck for years. Then Barney crossed Woody with Bluegrass Amos, got a pup named Traveler,he was 1 of the most talented, natural born coondogs,as a pup, I have ever been around!I counted out $1200.oo for him when he was real young, and Barney laughed at me.I saw him take tracks from old dogs, and drive them, and make them look stupid. He was the real deal, when he was young.

I tried 4 out of that line, I never had any luck getting 1 I liked.
1 out of Young Amos x Woody she was inconsistant,I sold her, she was bred 3 times here local, then sold to a man in Mi., he said she made the best he has ever owned.
1 out of G.T.Howard's Tapp dog(probably the best English dog I have ever seen)x Woody-he didn't make it.
I forgot G.T. bred Woody to Tapp,he was a half brother to Woodstock Redman,Little Swanging Tapp,he was raised by Lee Wilder. He was a powerhouse coondog, but he was mean. And a poor reproducer.
2- out of Bluegrass Amos x Woody-both were too junky, I got rid of them.
I just didn't have any luck with them,so I went to Walkers, and I have had good luck.

i wish i would have bought jones back when i had the chance, but i had so many good dogs in my yard i couldn't have hunted them
all..after redman died i thought i would breed arrow to iceman...i was told this was a big mistake....he was right. this was the only
litter out of arrow that in my opinion that didn't make it.if woody,
and a couple of other dogs out of arrow wouldve been put in the hunts she would be the legitament top reproducing english female of all time..............when i saw barney for the first time i thought bigfoot was coming to pick up his pups..just kiding he sure was a big man in a friendly package...i'm glad i wasn't one of those teenagers...arrow got bred to redman on a fluke...
at that time i booked a pup from steve and ed...a flood came through and killed the pups...i had a good young female. so i got her bred after 4 trips to kentucky to hunt with redman and some of his young dogs.i think i even quit my job to go on those trips.
arrow was a beautiful dog..1 year she won the bench show and
placed in the hunt at 1 year old...the hunts were alot larger then and winning your cast was important..now if you have 6 dogs at a hunt your good..back then 80 dogs were the norm locally.arrows full sister won 32 cast wins in row.1 year i hunted them both at autum oaks and won my cast with each but the score cards were not turned in,my light got stolen, along with my closes because i didn't drive my own truck...i should've placed 1st with arrows sister and 7th with arrow...they were only 14 months old...pretty crazy what we go through isn't it?....mike
Woody's only hole in her was she couldn't take 1 ounce of fang pressure at the tree.
Blue ate her up too many times when they were just pups,Barney is to blame for that.
She was a real coondog, but she had to be broke off deer, and most of her pups were the same way, Barney always swore by tri-tronics.Most of her pups were welped in a closet in Barney's family room, Woody was house broke, and when Barney owned her,she stayed in the house most of the time.
I was with G.T. and Barney when G.T. talked Barney out of Woody,we were sitting in a restaurant, and Barney priced her, and that was that.
Barney got real quiet, and said"old man, I just messed up!"
G.T. said "ya Bud you did",but Barney didn't backout.
