knee replacement

i just had total knee replacement and would like to know if anyone has had this ,how long before i can get my dogs back in the woods. thank you!

a buddy of mine had it done this year in about 2 mnths he was back in the woods for short hunts.

I was lucky enough that I only needed a partial replacement

I had it done on Dec 5. First week was not too cool. lol I put my walker away on my one week aniversary and pretty much stopped using a cane at the end of the second week. Layed my chore boy off after a week and a half and have been taking care of the cow herd since. I have been getting a little stronger each day. My only problem has been sleeping at night. I have kind of a dull ache that I don't even notice during the day, but when I try to get all relaxed to go to sleep, it is noticable and have trouble trying to get comfortable. I have tried a couple times to sleep in bed and can't seem to get that done. I don't really mind sleeping in my recliner. I am not quite ready to take off in the brush, but I am getting close to giving it a try.

I am in the manufacturing end of medical replacements. Most of the folks that I know have them takes about 6-12 weeks to where they can really get around painless, it varies. Good Luck

had my acl replaced in july it was last of nov till i was on unstable surface still wear a leg brace untill dec 2012 per doctor.. i wouldnt push it once u fall in the woods and have to start all over again whats the point of having it replaced ..just do all the therapy they will give you and that makes the difference in progress good luck to you

Gettin a partial or total replacement myself in a couple weeks. Can't aggrevate me any more than it does now. Of the 20+ surgeries, this is the only one I've had that I'm actually lookin forward to. I gota have both as well.

I've heard 'nuff from folks I know that I ain't scared ~ To much ~ ?

Really though, I been told many times that they wish they woulda had it done years earlier. I been crutchin it in since august,had surgery opening day of coon season on my right. After goin thru 7 surgeries via the "SCOPE" method on my left I fully expected it to fixer up but not the case this time. To much arthritus & chips broken off & Cartilage gone. Dr B Said their in awful rough condition for my age. Wear & tear from an active life of livin it large. Chasin dawgs all over the country for years,milkin cow's & now I've injured both this past fall to cap it off.

Oh well ya know? My truck looks great & does the job. "IF" it was'ta shuck a bearing,dump a tranny or twist off a driveshaft I'd just get'er fixed. We're the same. Not exempt from wear & tear causin break downs. Now-a-days they can fix our runnin gear better than the original. Just gota get'er done & thank god for insurance!

PS; I'm takin a new sawzall blade just in case they are out! No way this is gettin put off!!

I haven't had total knee but I worked physical therapy world for 4yrs and my experience showed me that the people that do their stretches and everything at home recover way faster than the ones who just want to let it heal on its own. I also say DO NOT push it too fast because although you may be taking 4 steps forward, if you push yourself too fast you will put yourself 10 steps backwards!!! I have had ACL surgery and I recovered within 6months. I have seen people with total knee recover for the most part in that time too! The ones who do nothing and the ones who go to fast too soon take longer! Best of luck!!!

knee replacement

Had a total knee replacement in April 2011. Spent three weeks wondering why I ever did that. Now wonder why I waited so long. As for your normal activities thats up to your doctor and therapist. Cannot emphasize enough the importance of the in home exercises as well as therapy sessions. The harder you work the quicker and more complete your recoverty will be. The dr released me in August and I have resumed all prior activities. Now trust the "new" knee far more than the old one.

Knee Replacement

Had my right knee replaced one year ago today. The first month was the worst for me after that things got much better. The rehab at first is tough but it gets better. You may be thinking what have I done but in 3-4 months you will wish you had done it sooner. Ricky Allen

fellows I had a lt knee total replacement in 98, I really haven't had
any problem with mine except when I have fallen down a couple
times,last time was on a thursday over a week ago.IT felt like I HAD torn something loose.dr. really couldn't tell from looking at the x ray because of the swelling.wearing a knee brace now until
the 22 of fed.when will make another x ray.I was on crutches for a wk. after this fall.but on just using a cane now.
the main thing when you have replacement is to listen & do what the dr. therapist tell you. both of my knees only work about half way & when I FELL IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO MY BUTT.LOL
you really shouldn't do to much for a yr.it really takes that long to be completely healed.
just be very careful while out in the woods. the first time I fell was in the woods by myself sq. hunting, finally broke me a forked stick to use for a crutch & hobbled home.the second was at home going down slick ramp to feed the dogs & fell

My Dad is 71. Had both knee replacements at the same time. He was on the walker the day after surgery and running dogs 4 weeks later.
