breaking from fox
my dogs, a stephens cur and two young plott gyps, have gotten so they do nothing by run fox. they did tree a possum a couple of nights ago. they have treed several coons and many possums. i know how hard it is to break dog from deer and suspect it's even harder to break from fox. so how's it done?

I recently had a very well known English man tell me that the best way to break a dog from runnin' offgame is #1-never use the E-collar in the field. #2--Determine what the dog is runnin'(whether it's deer, fox or whatever).#3----When you get that dog back home, take a large sock, cut 2 holes in the end of that sock.Put E-collar on the dog, pull the sock completely over it's head and soak the end of that sock with scent of whatever animal you are tryin' to break it off of.Turn up the transmitter to it's highest level of stimulation and shock the piss out of the dog until he crap's and pisses all over himself. The man told me that he guarantees the dog will never ever run that animal again. He swears by it.I have yet to try it,but he is a man with an impeccable reputation in the English world.Good luck.

agree
i agree whith smoke-pole. try tritronics and common sence worked for a lot of hunnters
I broke four at the same time. They have in thier short lives ran bear, hog, diller, possum, deer, coyote, fox, bobcat, house cat, a dog, a couple of fizzerines and even some coons. I used tri-tronics and will not turn a dog loose without one on. They are to the point now that they are pretty honest but still have to tone them occasionally about a diller dashing across the road or a deer running down the road in front of them. Havent had to shock them in probably a month. The are between ten and twelve months now. I let them run anything when they were just starting and then gradually started working on trash. I road hunt so they have plenty of opportunity to trash. I will say it only took a couple of times to break them of fox and yotes. Some were a little more stubborn when it came to deer and dillers. Common sense and restraint are necessary. I dont shock them until I am sure of what they are running. If I am not sure I just try to catch them off and move on.

For breaking your dog off Fox.
I would look around for a Fox Pen, if you have them in your state where the Fox hunters chase fox.
If thats not available in your area, look around for some Fox hunters, and ask if you can turn your hound loose with theirs, so you can break yours off Fox.
Use an E-Collar, when your hound joins in with those Fox Hounds light him up.

Coondogman send me all those not natural straight dogs. Mine all seem to have to run at least deer, hog, fox, diller and coyote before they find out I am coon hunting. LOL
i have a shock collar and know it's the only tool that will work. i guess i could put my dog in a barrel with a road kill fox and and drag it behind the truck for a few miles or tie one to the dogs collar for a few days or tie the dogs tail to the fox tail and hang them over the cloths line. but i won't do that sort of thing. i'll use the shock collar. that part isn't so hard to figure out.
the only viable idea i've read is the fox pen. thanks richard. the challenge is knowing the dog is running fox in time to shock it before it's out of range. maybe if they were running in an open field but that's not likely to happen. i think the fox pen is the only way and yes we do have them here, somewhere.
