-- soured corn???? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=395510)
soured corn????
this past summer i kept soured corn in my coon feeders before that i used sweet feed and dog food. its like all the coons just disappeared they are no where i aint seen a coon on this place in i know 2 months i dont shoot coons. i went back to using dog food in my buckets. they are staying full. when i was using the soured corn you would see 3 or 4 coons on the bucket every night
somebody told me soured corn kills coons is there any truth to that. any opinions on this would be great cause i am confused about the situation

If sour corn killed coons ,amany a coon has died from silage pile. JMTs I use soaked corn and grape coolade with a little bit of molassas.
IF SOURED CORN KILLED COON THERE WOULD HARDLY BE ANY COON AROUND HERE.

Had a hog trap set with sour corn soaked in desiel fuel(to keep coons and squirrels from eating it advised by a friend) in a 24 hour I had 290 pics squirrels during the day and 3 coons and a rabbit from 6pm till 3am guess the desiel didnt work

D1 Here,
I figured that Diesel would poison an animal if they ate it.
Maby Im wrong, but I would be afraid to eat anything soaked with fuel.

Sour corn kept under water is fine. Moldy corn will kill them. I would be more suspect of someone finding your feeders and thinning out your population.
Soured corn, when it dries, produces "Aflotoxins", that when concentrated enough, can kill an animal.
Aflotoxins from moldy corn is what poisoned several brands of dog foods and killed a lot of dogs over the years.
another good reason to stay away from corn based dog food.

It sure can.Skunks to. Its deadly if you have a outbreak. Feed just spreads it quicker.

had a couple of feeders behind my house with several pics of coons eating at them. I noticed the coons were getting fewer and fewer. overheard two guys talking at the local store one day about all the coons he had been catching in his trap and giving to his pups. turns out the guy lived at the other side of my patch of woods, imagine that.
the more yotes we get the fewer coon ive been seeing.I set out 3 buckets with dog food 3 weeks ago and 2 have not been touched. No tracks either, last winter could not keepem full and only took 2 coon per bucket i just wonder if the yotes are hunting the buckets too?

soured corn
ANDY yes yotes kill most every coon that comes into feeders and deer corn piles, also kill slick tails to. they eat most anything, need to be trapped or hunted if you want to keep coon hunt'n, don't take them long to kill off nearly all in coon thin areas, then they move on when food gets harder to find in area.
