Youth Casts- UKC.

Hey UKC I think there should be a youth cast option at every hunt. I had the pleasure of guiding and judging a youth hunt this weekend and I have never enjoyed myself more than being apart of such a great event. I think you could tweak the age bracket range 5-10 yrs old and then maybe 11-17 in the other bracket. What do ya think?

It's a great idea but unfortunatly there are not enough youth hunters showing up at local events.

i think this would be a great thing more youth hunters would show up at the hunts if they did not have to hunt against men and slick handlers kids just want to have fun with there hounds thanks robert

They are so enjoyable. There are some very fine handlers coming up, boys we better stay on are toes.

But I would like the age bracket to be 5 - 12 and 14 to 17, that where i see the boys and girls really change. In our area anyway.

I believe this would bring more kids with their parents to the hunts. Its really not fair for a 5-12 yr old kid to compete with someone 15-55 yrs older than them. They just don't compare. Really no different than senior casts. All you need is the option and I think you would see more kids at the local level.

I teach my boy the rules, so bring on the cheaters. You also have to teach the kids not to cheat and how to handle the cheaters. ??????????????? Question it.

You have a good point about the cheaters andy_ohp_fire.

I think of it as a kid being in a comfortable situatuion where he or she feels comfortable and can make descisons with out haveing to feel intimidated hunting against someone 15-50 yrs. their senior, not about having to deal with cheaters but that would only add to the situation. lol

Don't forget page 61 of the 2009/2010 rule book.13 and under must have an adult with them other than a member of the cast. That means you will need four adults with the cat and that would be a problem at most clubs.

When and if mine wants to comp hunt I will gladly set back and watch the show. It would be nice to have a youth cast choice if there were enough for a cast just like the senior casts. That's a good idea Kenny. I hope someone takes notice of it and tries to get it going. I would gladly not hunt my dog to guide them if need be.

I don't see a problem with having an adult, someone had to bring them to the hunt so they should have an adult there already.

What do you think UKC can it be done????

How about?

Allowing a youth cast for those 14yrs thru 17 years at ALL regular hunts if there are enough in THAT age bracket?
