has anyone had luck

getting a shy pup to come out of his shell..
my buddy just got a english pup from a guy. The pup is bred very well and out of reproducers. but he is a little skitish due to the fact he sat in a kennel with his littermates for the last 10 mos, with no awareness of the outside world. when you aproch him he takes off into his house but as soon as you call him he comes running out but squats down and pees but licks the crap out of ya
and trys to crall on top of you. i know it will take some time to get him to build up his confidence around people and things in the outside world, but has anyone had one like this turn out??????
pointers apreciated........

I generally just treat them like I would another dog.. Just ignore the fact they are nervous and spend plenty of time with them... I've seen dogs come out of it, seen dogs not come out of it and seen dogs that will attach themselves to one or two people and nobody else will get their hands on them.. If shy is due to lack of socialization and not run in the line, then more then likely the pup will come out of it...

Start calling and talking to him before you get there. Let him know you're coming and he'll probably get all excited before he has a chance to get scared.

Find some kids if you don't have any and let them play with it all the time. You can also buy some of the doggie treats and use them with him alot of times they will get over it faster with the treats.

Just work with it and be patient. No shocking collar. Probably too much of that and the limb already.

Josh, thats a classic reason why some Shouldn't raise pup's huh? Left in a pen & chucked feed till that age & not much else is not a good start but you know that already.

One of the worst things you can do is act like your stalkin them(in the pups eye's). Straight up confident posture when aproaching & tend to the others first for now so he can see you mean no harm to any of them.

Sounds like your on your way to gettin him to come around...

i've got a yr old dog that's shy. i've had her for 6 months. she had been in a pen with the rest of her litter the first 6 months of her life and that may be part of her problem. but regardless of where it came from, i'm trying to get her out of it. i take her to a busy convenience store and hang around for a while, spend some time standing at a busy intersection too. at least she's not gun shy. the problem dogs always take the most time.

may not be possible but will work ... hook it to your belt loops and take everywhere you go and let it watch everything you do

FACT: if a pup sets in a pen till 10 months it is borderline brain dead

i've had some luck with bringing them in the house, set em on the couch with you and the family, and watch TV while petting and talking with the dog. start with something easy going and work your way up. by the time you get to some Mel Gibson movies she will be good to go. and like Hobo said plenty of treats.

Take it for what its worth

I got one out of it by accident one time, I traded for it because of its Bloodline and it was like that, I tried everything already recommended and none of it worked, I gave up, I wanted to turn a Rooster and a few hens out by an old barn a way from every thing but I knew something would get them, I thought Ill tie that no count shy dog back there with them, he was By hisself, nothing around but me coming once a day to take care of him, to my Suprise with in a week he was So Happy to see me and was All over me when I went to feed him, he came completely out of it and I started hunting him. Note, I didnt even pay him attention when I went to feed him at first, I thought he was a lost cause.

well

yesterday i took him along to a hunt and he loves riding in the truck. and to day i let him off the chain for some freedom and he went crazy he did about 1000 laps around the yard and grabed any stick he could find. we even had a good old fasion wrestling match out in the yard between him and my 1 year old redbone. that freedom really changed him today.....
