Dog Won't Hunt

16 MONTH HE WILL LEAVE WITH OTHER DOG FOR ABOUT 5 MIN BUT THEN COME BACK HE WON'T STAY AT YOUR FEET BUT HE DON'T GET TO FAR OUT OF YOUR LIGHT IF U WALK HIM IN ON THE DOGS RUNNING HE WILL USUALLY FINSH TRACK AND TREE DEPENDING ON TRACK SOMETIMES TREE AHEAD OF OTHER DOGS I'VE ONLY WALKED HIM IN ON TWO TRACKS BUT HERE'S THE KICKER WHEN OTHER DOGS TREE U START TO THEM THE DOG TAKES OFF GET TO THE DOGS TREED AND TIE THEM BACK AND NO DOG THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN U HERE HIM TREED IN A DISTANCE AND HE HAS DID THIS 5 OUT OF 6 TIMES OUT HAD THREE COON 1 DEN AND A SLICK HE STARTIN TOO PISS ME OFF BECAUSE I KNOW HE CAN DO IT I'VE SEEN IT ANY SUGGESTIONS I'VE TRIED THE SWITCH IT DON'T WORK

Hunt him by himself I would say. If he can tree a coon no need for other dogs. Go out into the woods and find you a nice seat and plop down. He will get bored and go hunting.

When I turned mine loose...eons ago...I said "Get 'em!" When they treed it was "Tell 'em -insert dogs name-"

When he said lift his ear and whisper find a coon I had visions of the dog whisperer...didn't mean to offend.

hahahaha... well Wesley, I got 1 sitting here at home that you can sit there and have a 3 hour staring contest with him in the middle of the woods and he ain't blinkin!

What should I do now??? haha.

From now on, every time you take him hunting, turn him loose with the other dogs. When he comes back catch him and put him in the box. Don't scold or praise him, just put him up. He has fun hanging around you. He won't have fun in the box. It probably will not take but a few times.

If he wants to hunt alone, let him, just don't allow him to hang around the truck. The desire to hunt alone is being bred into many of these dogs just to win in a nite hunt.

See I've done EVERYTHING with this dog of mine in the last 2 years from shooting coon out to other dogs in front of him to laying him up to putting him in the box to wasting some leather. Nothing works. I have came to the conclusion the dog needs walk hunted alone and he loves competition when out with others.

Just a goofy dog. Some are like that.

If I turn him out with other dogs... even a house dog, he will go ALL night. 1st and 1st ALL night. Get alone if needed.

well went tonight turned old dog and pup lose both went pup came back old dog struck bad track pup went and checked stayed gone about 15 min then came back towards me and disappeared old dog got treed on the way to him pup opened got to tree no pup found coon and waited for a few and then started walking then pup gets hooked go to pup and he has the meat this pup is progessing every night but the not wanting to stay gone is pissing me off i have tried the dog box thing

this was the first time he went and checked on the dogs with out me walking him in

For young dogs, sometimes it helps too show them a picture of a coon before you cut them loose...Then lift the ear and whisper. I'm pack leader and you find a coon....
