Lithium battery vs regular

Wondering if anyone knows if you replace the 3.6volt lithium battery in a collar with a 1.8volt regular battery, will it affect the distance you can pick the dog up. Also, how about using regular batteries in the handheld unit?

I havn't tried it but I have heard it could damage the collar without using the 3.6. I doubt it would work right.. Click this link , I have used these with good luck for $4.50 each..

Alkaline doesn't have the power to ruin the collar, will not give you much distance at all. Problem is that electricity works just like air in a tire. If a tire goes from 40 psi t0 20, it looks like it's dragging. If it goes from 30 psi to 40, you can hardly tell the difference. Same thing here. The change in effectiveness is exponential, so dropping half the power will actually cut about 3 quarters of the distance (not just half). If you have dogs that go working, I wouldn't recommend it at all.

That is good 2 hear. My collar wasn't working last night. I had replaced the battery with a regular. I thought the system was messed up, but its probably just the wrong batteries. Is there ay where other than ordering them that I can get em tomm? I checked wallmart, and they only carry 1.6 volt lithium. Thanks.

Radio shack has them but you'll pay probably 10 bucks a piece for them...

Yea, this is interesting. Been wondering the same thing. I couldn't find the 3.6 volts anywhere either. Finally found them yesterday at Batteries Plus. Bought 4 batteries for $52. I just about puked. Came home and did a search on computer and found them for $5.50. Now my question to you guys is, you can get rechargeables for $6.50 but will they work and can you just stick them in a regular battery recharger like normal rechargeable batteries? Thanks.

Try this link. Best prices I have found. 2 of the 1/2 AA give 7.2v and increases signal strength dramatically.

I've been buying them from the local battery store for $7-8 a piece. I replace them every 6months or so, it's just cheap insurance.

Every time I buy them they ask me what I'm using them for. Has anyone else experienced this?

I guess meth labs use the same battery for powering something? The guy at the battery store told me if someone were to buy a whole box of them, he has to photo id them and take all their information?

you can't substitute a 1.5v cell of anykind for the 3.6v battery. if you had a 3.6v battery, of any kind, you can use it but it might not last as long. the lithium batteries produce a certain amount of current for a longer period of time when compared to mercury or alkeline. if you could find a battery of that would fit and had a higher voltage rating, it's not likely that it would make any difference in the performance becuase the device probably has a current limiting circuit to protect it from abuse and transients.
all cells are 1.5volts. carbon/zink, mercury, alkeline, and lithium are the same. but, each produce a certain current for different lenghts of time. you get different voltages and current capacities by the way the 1.5 volts cells are connected.

Paid $18.00 for 1 double "A" at Radio Shack and it fixed my problem. I tested the collar and it now works great. I did get asked what I needed a 3.6volt for and he had no idea what a dog tracking system was. Funny thing is he told me there was no such thing as a 3.6 volt double "A" at first till I pulled 1 off the shelf. I will be ordering an extra, but it will be $6 and not $18 at Radio Shack. Thanks for the info.

You can buy those batteries from Wildlife Materials Company or you could a few months ago when I bought mine.
