heart worm?

what are ya'll using for heart worms?

I use Interceptor from the vet.

Ivermec, once a month, every month of the year. 1/10 cc per 10 lbs of body weight, given orally.

Example: 60 lb. hound gets 6/10cc.

Buy a jar of the liquid Ivermec or Ivermectin injectable, $35 from Agrimed, will last you 2 or 3 years in the fridge.

Dont be afraid of an OD of Ivermec. People are so scared to use it, but it's very hard to hurt a dog by giving it too much Ivermec.

Ivermec is tested for safe use in all dogs except boarder collies. It's actually the active ingredient in HartGuard. A HartGuard tablet is nothing but 1% Ivermec in an edible medium.....that costs about 600% more!

Thats actually not true. Sorry, but hartguard is safe for ALL canines and it's maine active ingredient is Ivermec. using liquid ivermec is the same thing without the bulk carrying agent..the little brown cookie it's soaked in. My rents have 2 collies and they get their Ivermec onve a month, and beg for more.

All the hysterical worries around using Ivermec were spread by vets trying to take your hard earned smack!....your bank...your dead presidents...your dinero...your cold, hard filthy cash!

i toke my dog to the vet and it coast me 200 for 6 months of med and the test that is a joke

I can tell you that from personal expierience, the austrailian shepard thing is very true. I flat out killed my mother in laws ausie with ivermectin. There are some lines of ausies that can take it, however, after my little experience, I would not give it a shot. I can tell you that I have been giving it to hounds for 10 + years without 1 negative occurance. I also give it to the catchdogs I run. It works fine. After doing a little research, they recommend not giving it to long haired, flagged tailed dogs. There are several breeds that it affects that fall under this catagory. Hounds can take it every month with great success. Good luck.

If a dog dies after having been given Ivermec, the dog had heart worms. All Heart worm medicine is virtually the same thing. V did any of those dead dogs have a post mortem heart exam?

Make sure your dog dont have heart worms before you Ivomec them. It will kill them , if they are ate up with heart worms.

mjflores, some collies and sheep dogs have a mutant gene called P-glycoprotein.

This is what causes issues with Ivermec with the collie and sheep dogs.

There is now a test for P-glycoprotein mutation so that ivermectin sensitive dogs can be identified.

Approximately 35% of Collies have a genetic mutation creating a non-functional P-glycoprotein. This allows for ivermectin doses that would normally blocked from the central nervous system to gain access.

Other herding breeds also have a tendency to have this mutant gene.

So yes, it is very true.

I think I was very clear when I stated that all medications for heartworm contain Ivermec, Ivermectin, or the same drug under one of many generic labels. The same dog would be injured by taking any heart worm medicine. People need to stop being so scared to use Ivermec injectable! It's silly. The same dog with a mutant p-glycoprotein gene will be killed by a live killed vaccine, such as distemper, rabies, etc. It's not Ivermec that killed the dog, it's the mutant gene. What's the fix...let them get heartworm and die from that? Why do I always have to correct you Drew? Why must you always respond to my posts that dont concern you? You threatened once to put all my posts on your "ignore" list...please do that ok? Now can you try to leave me alone and not bother me anymore Drew? Can ya try that buddy? If you want to be scared and not use Ivermec...just dont. Do what makes you feel the most comfortable. You can spend $35 a month, and have to get a heartworm test once a year from your vet, pay an office visit etc. Or you can spend $1 a month, give your dog the same thing, and save a heck of alot of money. Like I said, do what makes you feel the most comfortable.
