If UKC Coonhounds?
If the UKC is full of cheating and doesn't offer the coonhunter anything, why is it still going growing and still in business?
Because...
Not all of them cheat. Only some. THANK GOODNESS!!

EVERYTHING happens for a reason.
A Very Large
percentage think they got cheated, but only because they didn't know the rules or lacked dog power.
It's easier to tell your friends you got cheated than to admitt you just plain ole got smoked, beat, defeated, lost, words they don't know how to say.

I've only been to a few competition hunts in UKC,but haven't seen or heard of any problems with a cast that i attended and was always made to feel welcome by the host club. You see all these post and replies about cheating, etc.,made me wonder that if that's true why is everyone still paying entry fees and registering dogs. Thanks to the UKC and it's staff for keeping the coonhound events going over the years so that i can enjoy it today.
I have been to hunts and got cheated and I had the dog power and knew the rules. Yes, there are only a few cheats out there but there are some for sure. And, sometimes, it is the degree of cheating. I have seen some that don't take their minus when 3 dogs tree slick, (3 against 1 vote), that won't sit in the truck and fill out a scorecard and not even hunt. I don't trust any of the 1500 point scores where there is only 2 witnesses, the dog owner and the fellow who may have made some easy cash.

Redtick, Sir you have that, if you are in a 4 dog cast and your dog trees the only coon and the handlers dont see the coon which is plain veiw and you get out voted 1 to 3 then whatya gonna do. This crab happens all the time, as long as ukc gets their money they could care less.
jtd.!?
what i would do in this case ,would be put a ? mark on the card and go back to the master of hounds. and then ask for a non hunting judge and tell the master of hounds what happened and then file a complaint with the master of hounds to send the names of the unsportsmanlike conduct of the handlers to ukc. and if the master of hounds dont do it and/or says, he will send it in ,you follow up with a signed letter to ukc.
you may have only 1 vote but you have options too.if everyone does this then the cheaters will think twice about getting their name sent in......
this way if ukc gets more than one letter on the same people then they have reason to check these people out.
remember A SIGNED LETTER !

I THINK THE LARGEST PERCNT OF PEOPLE ARE HONEST. I KNOW THERE ARE SOME WHO ARE DISHONEST AND WHO CHEAT. I DONT OWN ANY NITE HUNT CHAMPIONS AS OF RIGHT NOW. BUT I HOPEFULLY OWN ONE WHO WILL BE. HE IS COMING ON STRONG. WHEN I PUT HIM IN THE HUNTS I WANT HIM TO BE READY. TO SOME PEOPLE HE WOULD BE READY NOW. WHEN YOU ENTER A HUNT KNOW THE RULES AND HAVE THE DOG POWER TO WIN. DONT BE AFRAID TO STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU KNOW IS RIGHT. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO WIN THEM ALL BUT YOU WILL BE PREPARED. I DONT WANT TO GO TO A HUNT NOT BELIEVING I CANT WIN. I HAVE TO BELIEVE MOST PEOPLE ARE GOOD AND DECENT. AND NO THIS IS NOT MY FIRST TIME IN HUNTS. IVE BEEN HUNTING ALMOST 40 YRS.
I HAVE ONLY BEEN ON ONE HUNT WERE THERE WAS STRAITE OUT CHEATING
THE JUDGE WAS BEHIND AND THOUGHT HE WOULD HELP HIS DOG ALL IT DID WAS CAUSE THE DOG THAT WON THE CAST TO DROP FROM 3RD TO 5TH AND 5TH WAS ALL HE NEED TO FINISH TO NIGHT CHAMPION SO IN THIS CASE THE CHEATER LOST
I WAS NOT THE PEARSON CHEATING OR BEING CHEATED

SCOUTS OUT
the moh is not in the woods with each cast. ukc is not in the woods with each cast. cast members have to take responsibility for what happens in a cast. it is always best if a cast member or two withdraw or get scratched to try to finish the cast.a club with a strong reputation for honesty and moh that keeps control are strong additions to a successful hunt.i am not a big ukc fan and not a competition hunter. i am a treasurer at our local club and ukc moh. money hunts just will not keep the club doors open on a local club level.ukc also could do a few things to make it easier on the clubs to draw and servive. coon clubs are like all other organizations. you have a very few actual workers.the folks that mow between hunts, fix the broken items at the club, haul in the kitchen supplies, work the kitchen etc.if all the small local clubs keep disappearing where wll ukc and pkc etc be then?folks take care and support your local clubs! ukc put some effort into seeing what will help the clubs!!!
If you have an honest slick tree or an obvious coon that is going to be circled, slap a tracking collar on the tree and go back to the club. Bring some witnesses back and write the people up for unsportmanlike conduct. You would be surprised how fast votes will change. This is the only way to clean the sport up. It's a great game, but you can't win every time like some think. The best dog does not always win, but as part of a cast, you should make sure the right dog wins.
It is there!
If you really don't believe that cheating happens, chances are that you are part of the problem.
Just this last Friday night, hunting judge getting beat by a female handler with her 9 year old dog. This "honest judge" drives off and leaves the cast, only after tearing the scorecard in half and only providing the half with the names on it.
He did not even return to the club house to answer for his actions. The MOH says "well, we wont let him judge next time".
This "judge" needs to be barred from UKC. If that is not an example of poor sportmanship, then I QUIT!
Yes there is cheating out there. The best way to fight it is to get more honest hunters out there who know the rules. All that happens from all of this complaining is we scare honest folks off, and that makes it easier for the cheaters. Cheating happens, but it doesn't happen so much that the hunts aren't worth going to. If all of us who what to see the right dog win stick it out and keep going to the hunts then our chances of drawing a good cast improve.
There is no way to garauntee that it will never happen. Only ways to make it less likely that it does, and the above is the best one I know of.
The only problem that I see is when you go to a club and they draw out and then someone comes up to you and tells you to watch out for so and so, now if everyone knows so and so cheats why doesn't anyone do anything about them? I am like most I think if the other guys dogs are better than let the dogs prove it not slick handling or cheating, the best dog should win !!!!
